Today was a day I had been looking forward to for a while, seeing a glacier
So off we set after breakfast for Mount Rainier. As we drove along the road we saw a Christmas Tree farm!
It was a lovely day, clear blue sky and the temperature was warm enough for shorts
As Mount Rainier is over 14000 feet high we went to the visitor centre which is 5400 feet so some way from the snowy summit, or so we thought!!
But no, as there had been such a huge snowfall the previous winter the area was covered in snow, all the usual hiking trails were buried in about 10 feet of snow
But that didn’t stop us enjoying the snow
Or the views
As it was so slippery in the snow I decided not to try and make it to the glacier so turned back and went to the visitor centre for a while before settling back in the van to read a guide book. After about 2 hours the rest of the group returned and we set off back to camp.
Tomorrow we were on the move again to Olympic National Park with Rainforests and Forks
