My 13 yr old DD is bringing a friend with us on our trip this year to BLT (Heaven Help Me! What was I thinking?!?!?!) Her friend has to have a gluten free diet and I was wondering what tips any of you might have. Eating is one of the things my daughter and I do best when we are at Disney and I am struggling trying to balance keeping our traditions of eating things like the giant cinnamon roll at the bakery in MK and her friend's feelings. I know the restaurants have gluten free options, I'm just not sure what other "kid friendly" options there are at the counter service restaurants and snacks throughout the park. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! We check in on Tuesday and I am trying to figure this food thing out:)

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

As far as the food aspect of bringing the friend, you'll be fine. Disney caters to the gluten-free crowd. At CS, alert the cashier or one of the cms hanging around that you have a allergy guest and they'll fetch a manager you. Most places will have several options such as GF hamburger/hot dog buns, GF chicken strips, cookies, brownies, and french fries. Snacks like pop corn and cotton candy are GF. GF ice cream is available and the frozen drinks are GF too.

If you make any TS ADRs, you can put down her allergy and a chef will come visit your table. They can make a custom meal or grab safe fod from the back at buffets. Are there any foods/restaurants in particular that you are conserned about?

Thanks so much! I did put on our ADRs that we had a gluten allergy. Not a restaurant in particular I'm concerned about... just wasn't really sure how the CS meals would work. A huge relief to know to let someone know and she will be able to eat whatever we do!
Thanks again!

Thanks! That's a great help!!!

Everybody is different, but what we do is that if there isn't a decedent treat our kids can get at a particular location (or nearby and we can eat together outside) then none of us gets a decadent treat. I get as much enjoyment out of experiencing WDW through my kids' eyes as I do experiencing it myself. I know they'd tell me to go ahead and get the treat myself (they enjoy watching my excitement as much as I enjoy watching theirs) but I just can't bring myself to do it in front of them and I know I wouldn't enjoy it as much watching them without something. Obviously not every family/travel party does this but it's what works for us.

Here's what we do for CS meals in the parks.

MK: Cosmic Ray's (rotisserie chicken, ribs, burger with GF bun), Columbia Harbour House (allergy chicken tenders), Lunching Pad (turkey leg)

Epcot: Sunshine Seasons (soooo many options), Electric Umbrella (allergy chicken tenders, burger with GF bun), Liberty Inn (allergy chicken tenders, burger with GF bun), Mexico (tacos with soft corn shells)

DHS: We typically eat TS here but you can get allergy chicken tenders and burgers with GF buns at most CS locations that serve hot food.

AK: Flame Tree BBQ (though we really like Tusker House but that's TS)

DTD: Cooke's of Dublin (fish & chips, onion rings)

I have 3 kids and one of them is gluten free. If we are going somewhere that will have deserts, but I don't know whether there will be gluten free options, I bring m and ms or something in my purse so I know my gluten free daughter will have something. Good luck.
