We are going to be staying at the WL Jan 30-Feb. 6 for my 30th birthday and my mom's 50th. I was planning ordering her a regular birthday cake for her special day, and I wanted to order a gluten free, dairy free cake for myself on my birthday (Feb. 5th). WL Club level says that they have an 8 inch available that their bakery makes. Has anyone ever ordered a cake via the cake hotline for dietary restrictions? Can they decorate them? (I heard not b/c of cross contamination) I saw someone post a picture of a figment cake....(mad hatter style) and it was awesome. Figment is my favorite character, and that would be neat. Any help or tips would be appreciated!

Brenda Bennett is a good contact for all things related to dietery restrictions. Her contact details are:

She'll be able to help you with details, such as cross-contamination, which the CMs on the regular phone number may not be able to help with. It's likely that she will put you in touch with the relevant chef, and you can talk all the details out with them. Disney are extremely good about dietery needs, and can do just about anything with advanced notice.

Hope this helps a bit, and I'm sure others here can give you more input on the matter! :thumbsup2

WL Planning Office for Club Level told me that WL can make a gluten free/dairy free 6 inch cake. However, they referred me to the cake hotline. I called and was given an email address for the contemporary. I emailed them Friday and hopefully, will hear a response this week. I'm hoping to have a custom cake (something Figment themed!) and Chef Brian at the contemporary has done some amazing cakes (the haunted mansion one on the cake threads is AMAZING) and so I'm hoping. Will keep everyone posted!

Brief update: Well, I emailed the Contemporary with no response yet. But, I took OneLIttleSpark's advice and contacted Brenda Bennett (she helped tons on my last trip). She was very helpful. She forwarded everything the Contemporary for me, and said they should get back to me soon. So, I'll let you know what I hear! Good thing we aren't going for 3 months, otherwise I'd be freaking out!

have you heard anything back yet? I'm wanting to get some cake for my birthday too, but my birthday is this Sunday.
I can't have gluten, soy, chocolate, eggs, dairy...I was hoping for a recommendation because it's not worth the money to get a nasty cake! :rotfl:

I ended up going with a Gluten, Dairy, and Soy free cake in Chocolate (frosting and cake) from the Wilderness Lodge Bakery. It does have eggs in it. I had one heck of a time trying to get through to the cake hotline and even through the special diets (not them per se, it was the response from the contemporary). I ended up going through IPO because we are staying club level at WL. Good luck. I hope you are able to find a cake that is also egg free. For what it's worth, if you can't get a cake, try the gluten/dairy/soy/egg free cake/brownie from Crystal Palace. It's awesome.

Thanks!!!
Does the gluten/dairy/soy/egg free cake/brownie from Crystal Palace have chocolate in it? We can't do chocolate.

Oh rats, I'm sorry I didn't read your post carefully enough. Yes, it has chocolate in it.

I know that they offer a vanilla cake that is dietary but I'm pretty sure it also has eggs in it. You could check and see if they know of any local vendors that you could order from if that is case.

If anyone could help out, it would be disney.

Good luck, let us know what you find out!

Wonder if anyone will have that brownie while the CP is closed? They are closed when we are down there. I'd love to try the brownie.

That's a good question. I'm not sure that any other place does those. One of the waiters did say they were one of the only ones that made their desserts for dietary restrictions in house and they were very proud of that fact. Darn it. Well, you could always make it at home. Essentially, it's a modified mix of Bob's Red Mill brownies with applesauce, etc. It's pretty tasty.

Kristy1120: I do remember seeing some posts way back of someone getting vegan cakes. Now obviously it has wheat in it, but that means it's possible to be egg and dairy free too. Now, the soy I don't know about. I believe that those were cakes made at Prime Time 50s Cafe. I can't remember the poster of those cakes either. Sorry! I hope you were able to find a cake for this weekend.

Chell, I know that a number of different places have pre-packaged brownies, that avoid a lot of common intollerences, but I don't know if they'd cover everything you need. If you give a restaurant advanced notice, they may be able to produce something specifically for your needs - this should be particularly easy if they've already got a recipe for it. Main Street bakery also do cakes for a number of different food intollerences. I suggest you drop Brenda an email (see my pervious post), and see what she suggests.

Good luck! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I decided not to do anything special or out of the way dessert wise this trip. But after reading about the brownie so much I wanted to try it. The pre-packaged brownie has egg in it so that is out. Again thanks!

The french Meadow Brownies (they are located in most resort counter service and some other park ones like main street bakery and sunshine seasons) are not egg free. They are gluten and dairy free, but not egg free and neither is the French Meadow chocolate chip cookies. They have divvies but they are not wheat free.

My recommendation (which I do too, whether or not i can eat most of these items. FM is OK for me b/c I don't have egg issues) is to buy some stuff ahead of time and have allergy friendly snacks. Enjoy Life cookies (which some restaurants serve. I got them at the Tusker House for the plane ride home!) are wheat, dairy, and egg free. You can buy the chocolate chip cookies in single serve packages too. You can also find loads of snack bars and vegan chocolate (Endangered species is a good brand) if you want a chocolate snack. That way you know you have some GF/CF/Egg sweets handy.

Oh, it's not chocolate, but you could have Itzakadoozie bars! They are awesome! And great on a hot day! They sell those in the ice cream carts. :thumbsup2

so, I just wanted to share...

I didn't call in advance (not that I recommend that...lol) but I was at Pop Century and asked Chef Kristin if there was a cake that I could have (vegan, no soy, gluten or chocolate). She checked...they had 1 frozen one and it was great! Disney is so great for those will food allergies!

It was a 6" celebration cake and it was around $22. It was different than a regular gluten filled cake, but I was beside myself excited that I was able to get a birthday cake!

awesome! Great! I am glad you were able to get a yummy cake, even without any advance notice! :thumbsup2

Awesome Kristy! I'm so glad they had one for you!!! :cool1:
