Gluten Free at TDR

Looking for some help here as it is quite difficult to find any current information on this. I will be spending a day at each park in October this year. I know on the TDR website it lists several options for gluten friendly meals. I am trying to review them to see what might work but seems really hard to see the menu and what might be done to accommodate the issue. Does anyone have any experience with this recently and can suggest any spots I might be successful grabbing something to eat? Looking mostly for quick items, likely not a sit down although if that's all there is I can do that rather than starve! Thanks for any help!!

I am GF and will be in Japan in two weeks. I have printed out a card in Japanese from the digital nomad that translates that I cannot have any food that contains gluten or have cross contamination. I have mostly made sit down reservations at TDR as they are on the list of allergy friendly dining spots. I have reservations at Oceano, Magellans, Canna, the Polynesian dinner show, and the Boat restaurant at TDS (can’t remember the name right now). I will let you know how it goes.

Yes I would appreciate that very much. If you are also spending time in Tokyo I would love to hear how you managed that as I am also there for four days after TDR. Much appreciated!

So my GF adventure at TDL was interesting. We had the vacation package that included the meal reservations “&more” package. So I had prepaid for 12,000 yen meal at Magellans but couldn’t eat it. It took some google translating but I got them to agree to bring out the meal that was meant for me for my family to share and I would pay separately for my 3300 yen allergy meal. I don’t recommend the package where you pay for the extra dining meals if you have an allergy you will be overpaying. Most of the GF and allergy besides for a vegetarian stew or curry are kids meals. They will not agree to leave off a bun at a hamburger place so you can just eat the meat, I tried at a few.

I ate at the following restaurants:
Oceano Breakfast buffet- I was given a list of what had gluten, this was usually my best meal of the day. I’d have sausage, fruit, cheese yogurt and a salad.
Sherwood Garden breakfast buffet- this one was a bit better than Oceano, had a yummy fluffy egg salad filling separate from the bread.
Magellans - literally a kids meal for 3300 yen was all they could serve me they would not leave off the sauces to make normal course meals GF. I was very disappointed ☹️
Canna - I had a better allergy meal here not quite a kids meal but not the fancy food the rest of my family was served.
Polynesian Luau show lunch - this was the one meal that was altered very little and I had the adult portion the same as my family, a couple things were swapped like grilled shrimp instead of the seafood casserole and a different dessert.
Columbia Restaurant - this meal was the best one as the chef slightly altered the dishes my family was being served and the dessert on the menu was gf already.
Vulcana - GF/allergy kids meal with sausage, a small meatball, corn, mini salad and jello cup with apple juice.
My family ate at snuggly duckling and I had two lime jello mousse deserts for lunch and the milk tea. Nothing there other than the unappetizing curry/stew.
Queen of Hearts- GF kids meal again this one had a piece of chicken on it too which was yummy and was the best quick serve GF kids meal of the trip.
Refreshment corner- I had French fries and Ice cream from across the way
Cafe Orleans - Mickey macaron - yummy

I had more jello type desserts in my 4 days at TDL than I have in my life, but they did help sustain me if I needed a quick snack and were on the bottom of most of the special drinks.

My allergy translation card was taken seriously whenever I presented it and a manager would come to take my order and show me the options of what I could get (kids meal :rolleyes1 ) each time. All of the pictures of what the meals look like can be seen on the TDL on the menu for each restaurant just scroll down to the bottom see the allergy sets, you can also do a filter by allergen too.

Thank you so much for that detailed report. Sounds like you managed. Sounds as though the kids meals seemed to be the way to go in a few cases. Were you able to eat any of the popcorn at all? I am wondering about the seasonings they are using. The two breakfast buffets you mentioned are they in the parks? Are they reservation or walk up?
How did you manage the rest of the time in Tokyo? Were you able to find foods that were suitable?

I used the find me gluten free app in our other cities in Japan, we found some good places through there. T’s Gluten free restaurant in Tokyo was great. In Kyoto we found a great crepe (Waco Crepes) and ramen place (Kyoto Engine Ramen) through the app. I don’t love popcorn, just because it gets so stuck in my teeth and drives me crazy so I didn’t have any so can’t report on it. The breakfast buffets were in the Mircosta and Disneyland hotel restaurants, they were included in our vacation package and I made a priority reservation for the other two mornings we weren’t on the vacation package anymore. You may be able to walk up as it was never too crowded but it wasn’t that crowded overall when we were at TDL. If you are going at a popular time I’d recommend the reservations. We got the breakfast buffets at all the hotels we stayed in and it was a good start to the day, the one in Kyoto (Hotel Granvia at Kyoto Station) had a matcha ice cream soft serve which was so yummy.

For the breakfast buffets, did you eat straight from the buffet or were the chefs able to bring you food from the kitchen? We have a Toy Story VP in December with two breakfasts included. I have coeliac so I never eat at buffets due to cross-contamination.

I ate directly from the buffet I don’t think they would bring you stuff from the kitchen, they are very rigid. I asked at a few of the fast foods for a burger without the bun and was told no every time.

I wanted to add that you need to be wary of getting any of the tea drinks in the vending machines around Japan as the brown/black teas are usually barley tea. If you want a tea drink out of a vending machine stick to green tea.
