Glitter and Scrapbooking

I haven't really seen anything about glitter used for scrapbooking, but I have heard there is glitter specially made for it. Can I use any glitter or is some of it not a wise choice? How can I tell the difference? I have lots of glitter from other types of crafting so I don't really want to go out and buy "special" glitter unless there is no other choice. Any help would be appreciated.

I never even thought about this. I have used craft glitter a couple of times in my scrapbook, but it always comes off over time.

I have started using crystal effects from stamping up to keep the glitter in place. I am fairly sure that if you use that it will seal up the glitter and it wouldn't matter.

How do you get the glitter to not rub off over time on your craft projects?

I've used Stickles. It's glitter glue that is safe for scrapbooking. They come in little bottles with a fine point tip so you can easily "draw" with them. The glue is colored and somehow the glitter doesn't separate from the glue. Here is a page I did recently with the yellow Stickles. The stars on the top of the page are totally covered and the other stars are outlined.

I love stickles!

Stickles have become my new addiction. I've been going back to add them to pages I've already done. So much for forward progress. :rotfl:

Where do you buy them? None of the big craft stores carry them around here. The kicker is Ranger Inks is about 20 minutes from my house and they won't sell direct. :confused3 The ones I have, I've gotten online from a girl out west. Kind of funny that the Stickles had to cross the country twice.

I just love stickles. I have gotten all my through ebay. They sell in bulk and you can pick your colors. Your LSS may sell them too. I know mine does.

I love stickles tooI I have been recently dotting them in the middle of my Prima flowers, instead of brads or buttons. It looks cute.:goodvibes

I really want the effect of the loose glitter. I'm working on snowmen and want the fluffy look of the loose glitter. I think I got a bottle of stickles at my local Michael's. Maybe I'll have to go with the Stickles though.

Thanks everyone!

I really like the Martha Stewart and Doodlebug glitters. They are very fine and so far I haven't had a problem with it falling off the pages.

I also like to use a glue pen (again, Martha Stewart's is a good one) because it makes a a very fine line and you don't have a glob of glue and glitter in some places.

ColleenG- Ranger just had their warehouse sale yesterday & today and I heard that they were selling Stickes by the pound!!! Unfortunately, I couldn't go because of a sick DD - maybe next year.

There are lots of online stores that sell it - I've been using them forever.

I also love the Doodlebug glitter - I haven't tried Martha's but maybe I will now that we can use the 40% off coupon at M's.

How did you hear about their warehouse sale? I guess I missed it, but I would have tried to go. It's so close. Online is the only place I've been able to find them. Sometimes I've been a little iffy on the color. I just would like to see it in hand before buying some of them.

For fluffy how about using some of the flocking?

Rebecca

I had thought about using the flock. My local m's said that they would be getting it in soon, but they haven't yet. pretty in tink and I were out looking for flock today. We still can't find it here.

Since no one has posted that it's really bad to use, I guess I'll go ahead with the regular glitter though.

Thanks for all the help.

I'm a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and we offer a variety of wonderful glitters. I use crystal effects with dazzling diamonds all of the time. I would think that any fine glitter would work well for scrapbooking. Fine glitter won't scratch photos like general craft glitter. Theres also a product called Stickles which are glitter glues in a little squeeze bottle but I've never been fond of those. I also use DCWV glitter stacks to add extra sparkle to my pages.

Hey Gals...I use the Doodlebug glitter..I just finished a couple of pages with it and it worked great! I have to STOP with the glitter though!
I bought it at Archiver's and used a 30% off coupon!

Do you have a Hobby Lobby?
In the Christmas craft section there are lots of glitter, glitter glue and FLOCK. Not a name brand flock, but it works just fine. They had them in pairs, red & green, white & blue, pink & lt green. For $1.99 you get two big bottles. "Make it Christmas" is the brand.

Jen Starr, one of their designers/teachers, send out an e-mail and also posted it on NJScrappers Yahoo Group. Jen lives here in NJ!

Also, Scrapper's Cove in Milltown has all the Stickles colors as well as the new ones. I take a trip over there once a month, I live in Hillsborough.

Where is Milltown? I've heard of it, just don't know where it is. I'm in Point Pleasant. Unfortunately we don't have any scrapbooking specialty stores. Just the big stores, ACMoore and Mike's.
