Glennbo’s City, Sand, and Savanna PTR - TR Link (pg 73)

I always have better luck on the right as well.
Last time we were there a CM was outside telling everyone both sides were open but everyone only went to the left. We looked at her and shrugged and went to the right and walked onto a boat with zero people in front of us and 2 behind us. The other side was packed. :confused3

:woohoo: We made it down to Florida successfully! And I have my FL Driver's License, which means I've gotten my AP.

 I wish they didn't make it so hard to get one....like having to live in Florida and everything. :rolleyes2

We're excited about the house! We're picking out all the colors and everything this weekend...means no Disney this weekend, but that's okay.

That's great. What a fun time...enjoy it!

Those plans all sound fantastic Glennbo! I have to say I do look forward to your food reviews, mainly as I have never eaten at most of the places you tend to visit, it's always nice to see inside these resteraunts!
:goodvibes

Well, there are several repeats for us, since the kids love some of them so much, but we do have a couple of new ones -- Flying Fish, the luau, and the Grand Floridian tea (if the ladies will remember to take some pictures ).

On the vacation front, nothing to look forwards to here for the next year at least, mainly due to an eye-op, graduation and the struggle to join the job ladder. :guilty:

Those are good reasons there Squidgy. Especially becoming gainfully employed....how else are you going to afford your WDW habit?

So, as I did last year I shall live vicariously through trip reports.

Yes, I look at going on vacation as a public service. It's the least I can do.

Indeed, I had a particularly bad bout of withdrawal symptoms yesterday so read your 2011 TR again, it was just as good as I remember! :thumbsup2

Sorry about your WDW withdrawal, but I'm glad my TR helped. Thanks for the compliment.

All I remember about the POTC queue is going right, but that day it was 50/50 in terms of numbers, as I recall it was the day before the 4th July, so quite busy! Alas, I cannot be of any help in that matter... :headache:

Hey, thanks for trying. Here's something to take you back to that moment when you were in the queue....."Dead men tell no tales. Dead men tell no tales."

I also agree not to give complex info to relatives too early! Sometimes even the best of us can get confused, and travel details need to be completely accurate, lest a mix-up occur! :scared:

Yep-er. I'll wait 'til we're closer.

One thing you might consider planning is making a backup of all important numbers/items on your phone for example, though knowing your penchant for organisation (taking photo's of your photopass card? :)), you hav ealready done this and I overlooked it .

Oh yeah, I'm all over it Squidge. The version of my Master Plan spreadsheet that I pdf'd (and will do again when we get closer to departing) has ADR numbers and our reservation confirmation numbers on it. I hid those rows when I posted on the DIS. Then, with the help of many DIS'ers suggestions, I got Dropbox working so that I can get that pdf file on Judy's iPhone. :cool2:

Oh, and our Universal tickets and the Visa Rewards card arrived yesterday and I photographed the back of them before putting them away. ;)

I hear you on the planning doldrums!!

Deciding on resorts and parks and restaurants is where the fun is!

Good thinking on NOT getting the Universal park hopper. I went last year with the family for a one day trip and we couldn't have park hopped if we wanted to. If you are going to see WWOHP, then you've got it covered!

That's good to hear, thanks. I'd like to spend a couple of days there, but maybe some trip in the future when we can stay on (dark side) property.

Just a note that the Forbidden Journey is herky-jerky. Don't go if you are motion sensitive (or if Judy is - I can't remember but I though Judy might be???). The castle is totally cool though so I would wait in line and then opt out right before they board you on the ride.

Thanks, I'll mention that to her. She has more trouble with spinning rides (e.g. Mission Space), but she did hurt her neck on EE. I think she'll want to try FJ at least once though.

I didn't comment on the Judy sighting as I was NOT first as usual:snooty::rotfl2:

You were the first to comment after the post went up...but no mention of a Judy. :confused3

Lots of things checked off our to do trip.

:thumbsup2

Now, if you were of the female persuasion than you could fill this time shopping. Shopping for shoes, out fits, bathing suits, things to keep the kids occupied on the drive, sunscreen, ..... The list would be endless!

I have been shopping -- for roof rack crossbars, an fm extender,....I guess that's about it. :rotfl2:

On our first Pirates ride of a trip we don't plan it, we walk toward the split and decide that exact moment! If we do a second ride, we go on the other side. It does seem the one side is shorter than the other...I think the right side??? I think.

It's so funny -- I thought there was a DIS-concensus on the recommended side, and I just didn't know or remember what it was. I think most people are saying "right" though!

We have been told by the CMs though that one line is shorter, if they mention it, we take their advice!

Absolutely!

1 Judy - can't believe I actually noticed.

The post was a little light on pictures and smilies, so she stood out a little.

Planning doldrums - that's good, right? It means you have everything under control (unlike my June trip).

Yeah, I think you're right. The scrambling is done.

I recommended this pizza place to Cynthia: Orchid Island Pizza Click on this link and you will find a not-so-hidden Mickey!

We got take out from there on evening and I remember everything being quite good. It's right on the corner within walking distance of the resort. We had an oceanfront balcony and it was one of my more memorable meals of the trip simply because I could not imagine a better view.

That sounds perfect for check-in night! Thanks!

They will give you a list of grocery stores when you check in. It's very nice that they do that and probably saves everyone a lot of time. I remember we drove to a shopping center with a Walmart and a grocery store, but that's all I remember.

Okay, I didn't realize that they'd do that at check-in. My gps should be able to find Wal-Mart.

Interesting about the FM extender.

The satellite radios (if they're not hard-wired into your car radio) transmit on an FM frequency so that you can pick it up on your car radio. They just transmit a weak signal, so that it should only be strong enough for your car. I really wanted to get an FM transmitter booster, to give a stronger signal, but no place on-line has any in-stock. Weird.

Ugh, the planning lull. You could do what I do and change your plans around multiple times and drive the people you're traveling with nuts! It sounds like you're going to be leaving it alone though (which is probably a good thing! :thumbsup2)

I don't think I know anybody on the DIS who changes ADRs as much as you Sara! Wingnut just goes with the flow, smart guy. I like to set 'em and leave 'em alone.

So I have to tell you that "Moist Exhausting" is one of the first trip reports I read when I started planning our trip and I loved it.

:welcome: BrerMama!!! I agree, "Moist Exhausting" should be the first trip report any DISer reads! ::yes:: ;) Thank you for the compliment though, I'm really glad you enjoyed it....it was a great trip and we made some great memories.

So much so that when my 16 y.o. DD wanted to read a trip report, I recommended it to her.

BrerMama you are quickly becoming one of my favorite post-ers!

She loved it.

 That kid should become a literary critic, she's got great taste!

At the time, I couldn't comment on it because it was finished and the thread was closed.

I'll be honest, I've been a little peeved about that. For some reason the mods closed that thread and moved it over to Completed Reports literally 3 days after my final post. I didn't even have a chance to reply to some of the standard after-post comments. There are so many threads that they leave open for months and months, and I don't begrudge those folks, I just don't understand why they closed mine so fast. Okay, rant over.

Then I found this on the PTR (how had I missed it?) and when I recognized your name I got all excited. Thankful for the chance to not only say "Thank you for entertaining me" but also "thank you for helping me introduce my daughter to the fun of trip reports."

 Wow, thank you for such kind words. You are very welcome...it was a lot of fun to write, all of the DISers following along made it a great time. :goodvibes

And then I got all excited because you're going to be at the World at the same time we are.... which was followed closely by the realization that we move to Universal during the week that you're there. It does look like we'll have a couple of overlapping plans -- MK on Monday and IOA on Friday. When I told that same DD that you were going to be there when we were, she totally got *gooey eyes* and said, "Do you think we'll run into them?" You truly are a trip report rock star.

:cool2: I keep telling my wife that, but it doesn't seem to faze her. :confused3

We'll have to try to find a time to say "hi". Stay in touch as we get closer to trip-time. I need to get over to your PTR!

Glenn you have a Fan Club!!! Marv will be jeolous !!!:rotfl2:

All the people who like to be harassed :stir: flock to Marv.

Yeah Yeah Yeah 1 Judy - a couple of days late and probably many dollars short. :sad2:

You had a good run going for a while though.

At least I beat Marv here!!!! :lmao: I may have to send out a flare for him.

The guy's been busy lately, apparently.

I am going to have to resort to typing out the smilie name if they keep playing musical chairs when look for them. :rotfl2:

I know! It's driving me crazy!
smiley-rolleyes003.gif
I'm going to have to memorize what they are.

I hear you on the planning doldrums. Not only am I too busy to really look and plan, this trip will probably be a whatever works since I can be flexible to meet up with others already there. :thumbsup2

That could make for a fun trip though. You've been to WDW so many times, you hardly need to plan.

I always have better luck on the right as well.
Last time we were there a CM was outside telling everyone both sides were open but everyone only went to the left. We looked at her and shrugged and went to the right and walked onto a boat with zero people in front of us and 2 behind us. The other side was packed. :confused3

Okay, I'm definitely getting the message of "right" unless directed otherwise by a CM. Thanks Sam.

I've been meaning to tell you something...heading over to your PTR.

I was the first to post !!!!How did I miss the Judy sighting !!! Now I am really bummed I coulda had a point !!!:rotfl2:

I was the first to post !!!!How did I miss the Judy sighting !!! Now I am really bummed I coulda had a point !!!:rotfl2:

:rotfl: You just said that you were interested in POTC recommendations too.

Oh well, Winkers needed to get on the board, so thanks for allowing her that.

1 Judy! My first ever Judy sighting. How fun!
You seem to be passing your time very well! You're getting close!

1 Judy! My first ever Judy sighting. How fun!

Good work! :goodvibes Now you've gotta work on speed.

You seem to be passing your time very well! You're getting close!

I was a kind of surprised with all of the little things I'd gotten done.

You're very organized!
I can't seem to get it together for our trip. :rotfl:

You'll get there. Time pressure sometimes helps!

That's it I was just being nice ;):rotfl2:

Well of course. It's your nature, so you can't help it. :rolleyes2

I really want to find a Judy first. I'm never on at the right time!

My new goal in life is to spot a Judy

You are in the Planning Doldrums, bobbing with the waves, just slowly drifting. It may seem like you’re going nowhere, but at the very least, time is passing – and when you’re waiting for a Disney trip to arrive, that means a lot!

I'm in the same boat as you, Glenn--although I have to wait till July, so that's worse! Surely there's some good news for you...

This seems like a good time to mention -- only 54 more days until we check-in for our Vero Beach stay.

...and there it is! :woohoo:

Talk to Judy about what restaurants in NYC they want to go to. I know she’s gotten some recommendations from people and I’d like to work them into her itinerary for her.

My son recently went to NYC with his grandparents as a birthday gift. He chose McDonald's for lunch and Nathan's hot dogs for dinner, and recommends them both highly. :thumbsup2

[*]Get a reminder from the DIS community as to which is the recommended queuing line for Pirates of the Caribbean – left or right?? Help people!

I've heard to "always go to the left", but I like the "watch what everyone else does and do the opposite" rule.

Thanks, I'll mention that to her. She has more trouble with spinning rides (e.g. Mission Space), but she did hurt her neck on EE. I think she'll want to try FJ at least once though.

I used to be a roller coaster FIEND (Cedar Point back in the day!) but as I get older, I am more motion sensitive. The Star Wars ride makes me really ill. I'll go on it and remove the glasses and stare at the floor just so I can sit with my family. Mission Space (green, not orange) and Soarin don't bother me. Neither does Aerosmith or TOT. But Forbidden Journey was similar to Star Wars with the 'feeling' of motion because you are watching something on a screen and then the 'arm' moves you around to go along with the motion on the screen. It is not smooth like Soarin but very herky jerky (like Star Wars but more so because the 'arm' allows more movement in different directions).

Wow, long explanation but maybe it will help someone envision if the ride is right for them!

Better late than never? :flower3: Sorry - it's been crazed here lately!

What do you do once the resort reservations have been made, the park touring schedule has been decided upon, and the ADRs have all been made?
OH, that one's easy! You...

Okay, besides change ADRs I mean.
Never mind.

;)

[*]Ordered our Visa Rewards card.
Oh my gosh - THANK you for noting that! I keep forgetting to order my new one. Now it's done! :thumbsup2

[*]Get a reminder from the DIS community as to which is the recommended queuing line for Pirates of the Caribbean – left or right?? Help people!
Whichever line everyone else is NOT going in!

Gotta give Glenn a BUMP!!!
It's probably not too hard lately. Sorry I haven't been posting much. :guilty:
Wow, I expected to be waaayyyyyyy behind here! Not used to a glennbo PTR moving so slow that even ROSIE had to bump it up for you........ :faint:
I interupt this thread to let you know I started a ptr about Christine and I going in December !! All are invited even Marv!!!!:rotfl2:
You have GOT to learn to add a link Rosie! I STILL haven’t found that sucker!!!
At least I beat Marv here!!!! :lmao: I may have to send out a flare for him.
Calling all Marv's, Calling all Marv's!!!

Wonder if a Martian kidnapped the poor guy or something........ :confused3
All the people who like to be harassed :stir: flock to Marv.
Hey, I resemble that remark!!! :lmao:
The guy's been busy lately, apparently.
Pretty busy! A lot of time critical activities at work, and then trying to work all the most important stuff into my free time........NOT that the DIS isn’t important stuff....... :bitelip:

When I have had time off lately, just not a whole lot of motivation to sit back down at a computer at home. Luckily I CAN honestly say that a lot of the times I tried, the DIS wasn’t cooperating, so I gave up..... :(

I really want to find a Judy first. I'm never on at the right time!

My new goal in life is to spot a Judy

It's good to have goals! (I'm not sure if this particular one would classify as "reaching for the stars", but I still like it.) When we get to the actual TR, the Judy-finding will get fast and furious.

1 thing at a time!! :lmao:

:rotfl2:

Morning Glen will you please post a Judy so I can be first !!!!:rotfl2:

Why do I feel like I'm standing over a goldfish pond with a handful of fish pellets?

I'm in the same boat as you, Glenn--although I have to wait till July, so that's worse! Surely there's some good news for you...

...and there it is! :woohoo:

Oh yeah.

My son recently went to NYC with his grandparents as a birthday gift. He chose McDonald's for lunch and Nathan's hot dogs for dinner, and recommends them both highly. :thumbsup2

Hmmm, I'll relay that information. According to an episode of "The Office", Sbarro's is a great place to get a "New York slice"!

I've heard to "always go to the left", but I like the "watch what everyone else does and do the opposite" rule.

Your "left" response is the first one in a while. "Do the opposite" sounds good.

Wow, long explanation but maybe it will help someone envision if the ride is right for them!

Thank you, I don't think I've gotten that kind of detail/comparison anywhere else. That's good info! :thumbsup2

Better late than never? :flower3: Sorry - it's been crazed here lately!

No problem at all. :) Crazy in a good way, I hope.

OH, that one's easy! You...

Never mind.

;)

See, I had to throw that caveat in there just for you. Well, you and Stringbean.

Oh my gosh - THANK you for noting that! I keep forgetting to order my new one. Now it's done! :thumbsup2

Yay, glad I could help. Our last card was expired, so couldn't reload it, and you don't want to be sweating the card arriving at the last minute.

Whichever line everyone else is NOT going in!

Does this advice work at the grocery store too? 'Cause I can never pick the right line.

Wow, I expected to be waaayyyyyyy behind here! Not used to a glennbo PTR moving so slow that even ROSIE had to bump it up for you........ :faint:

Great observation. :headache:

You have GOT to learn to add a link Rosie! I STILL haven’t found that sucker!!!

:rotfl2: I thought the same thing, but was able to find it.

Calling all Marv's, Calling all Marv's!!!

Wonder if a Martian kidnapped the poor guy or something........ :confused3

I figured you were out kidnapping martians.

Hey, I resemble that remark!!! :lmao:

::yes::

Pretty busy! A lot of time critical activities at work, and then trying to work all the most important stuff into my free time........NOT that the DIS isn’t important stuff....... :bitelip:

When I have had time off lately, just not a whole lot of motivation to sit back down at a computer at home.

I know the feeling.

Luckily I CAN honestly say that a lot of the times I tried, the DIS wasn’t cooperating, so I gave up..... :(

Yes, it was very frustrating for a long time, but I think it's been doing well for a coule of weeks now. :woohoo:

Order an FM extender or transmitter for my Sirius radio. Our new (to us) van doesn’t have an auxiliary input jack or a cassette player, so there’s no easy way to get my Sirius radio to play on it. The Sirius radio has an FM transmitter in the unit, but apparently it’s not strong enough to work well. I haven’t been able to find anyplace online that has a transmitter in-stock, so I may have to try an FM extender. We’ll see.
Glen what type of van do you have?

With my old Sirius sportster I could turn on my radio in my house and pick up a clear signal. When the new radios came out the FCC changed the wireless transmission strength on the radios. Now they StInK. :headache:

Once again your plans look good! :thumbsup2

Glen what type of van do you have?

We got an '05 Honda Odyssey.

With my old Sirius sportster I could turn on my radio in my house and pick up a clear signal. When the new radios came out the FCC changed the wireless transmission strength on the radios. Now they StInK. :headache:

Wow, that was quite a signal! I have a Sportster 4. I wonder if the FCC has banned the boosters or something because no one has them in stock.

Once again your plans look good! :thumbsup2

We're getting there!
