Ok, so what are your tips and tricks to keep from focusing on the fact your vacation is winding down once you hit the half-way point? Or when you're down to the last few days on longer trips?

Thanks

we usually have 2 booked at a time, so we just start thinking about how many days till we get back home.......:thumbsup2

I'm never sad for long because we always have another trip booked and will be back.

Five things:

- focus on the present and not the future.... but it is good to be aware of what day it is or one might miss the flight home!

- tell myself I'm fortunate to be able to enjoy a trip and DVC with my family.

- remind myself to remove negative words from my thoughts such as the word 'only': "We only have 2 more days." becomes "We have 2 more days!"

- make sure to build in a buffer on the home end so we're not running right back to the work or school world. You'd be surprised what a difference it makes knowing there's still time to unwind, think about the trip and plan the next ;)

- finally, I think about seeing our fur babies and how much we miss them. They count on people being there for them and they're there for us. A pet sitter helps, but just can't handle the attention they need.

Going to a beach for a few days helps some. Then you look forward to that, although leaving WDW is always a bit bittersweet.

Sittin' here relaxing on our first day....talking about adding another quick trip sometime (even though we have all the big trips planned through 2014!).:cool1:

I usually stay 12-14 days and am tuckered out enough to be ready to leave, knowing that I've already seen pretty much everything over the past several years, and that I'll be coming back to see whatever has changed. However, I pretty quickly, upon heading out, start thinking about everything I didn't do that I had planned to do! But, I do try to be sure I've done anything that might not still be there next time (when they've warned us -- I still haven't forgiven them for the times they've closed down the different Figment characters -- with Dreamfinder in the beginning and then the big guy).

It is nice to have another trip to look forward to, no matter how far out. We just went in August for 5 days but had no problems leaving b/c we have another trip upcoming.

If you don't have another trip planned, live in the moment and enjoy where you are and what you are doing. If you start getting depressed halfway through the trip it sort of defeats the purpose of going....

I absolutely agree with others about having more trips on the agenda. Because of the need to plan in advance with DVC, we always have another trip (or 2) coming up that we can look forward to.

unfortunately, i understand where you're coming from :rolleyes1
as soon as the half-way point hits, i get a little sad, knowing that we must return to real life, where we can't wake up whenever we want, lay by a pool all day, walk and talk and walk and talk and walk and talk just because we feel like it, no friendship horns to announce another day, having to find the time to be with one another........
we always have a another trip planned, but i agree, those last days are bittersweet.

I'm always so thrilled that I have my DVC and know I'll be coming back. Not to say that I'm not sad to leave, but I just tell myself I'll be back.

I think about how fortunate I am to even be able to take my family on trips to WDW. Then when I get home I start working on editing thecpicures we took and reminisce about what an awesome time we had. Then I start thinking about when we'll go back. It'll be a while for us since we'll be planning on Hawaii next trip.:)

I don't look at it as a glass half empty. I look at it as a glass that is getting ready to be refilled.

With DVC I know I'll be taking another great vacation soon so my cup will always be refilled. Often it starts refilling before it is even empty!

I admit that I don't usually succumb to this, though my wife does from time to time. To help combat this, I tend to arrange my trips so that my "must-dos" are in the first half. Then I allow the second half to just happen, with lots of rose-smelling and exploration.
