So a very generous friend just gave us a 3 day Disneyland park hopper pass as a birthday gift. It was an incredibly sweet gift - but we don't have plans to go again until most likely 2014 (thr card will be expired by then) we live a plane ride away, so it's not like we're locals here or have friends who go all the time. WE are the people who go all the time!

What are we suppose to do? Do we tell our friend and hope she can get her money back?

Yes or see if it can be exchanged for the value on a gift card (which doesn't expire)?

Call Disneyland Guest Services AND Disneyland Ticketing (in case you get 2 different answers) to explain your situation. We've been able to get a full refund for tickets in the past and have also had the value of tickets put on a non-expiring gift card. (In this case, I would choose the gift card so you can use it on your next DLR visit.) Since we live near the parks, we did all this in person at City Hall or at a ticket booth. Since you live far away, you can call, and CMs should give you an address where you can mail the ticket with a cover letter. (Send it registered so it can be tracked.) There will be no need to tell your friend -- just thank her! And then think happy thoughts about her when you use your gift card in 2014!

Most likely you will not be able to get money back on the ticket (since they are not refundable) BUT you will be able to apply the cost of the ticket to a valid ticket when you do go again. So if they paid $200 for the ticket and tickets are $225 when you go next, you will pay the $25 for the new/valid ticket.

Most likely you will not be able to get money back on the ticket (since they are not refundable) ...

The tickets do state that they are non-refundable, but if you speak with a CM and explain the circumstances, it is possible to receive a full discount. We had an issue with a ticket that was supposed to be a gift, but was going to expire in a month (well before the recipient would have used it). We went to City Hall, spoke with a CM, she gave us an address and told us to mail the ticket and a cover letter by registered mail. Followed her directions exactly and received a check for the full amount about 2 weeks later. Obviously, not every circumstance merits this kind of attention, but in my case, a full refund was possible.

Thanks so much for the advice everyone! Would be awesome if we could use it towards our trip in 2014 (wether as a gift card or upgraded ticket!) will look into it for sure :)
