Monday 4th August
Alarm goes off at 6.15 and we are out the door at 7.10 (and back in again minutes later having forgotten something vital which I have long since forgotten). Anyway off again and reach the Grand Floridian in plenty of time. DH goes off to park the car and we wait patiently for what seemed like an awful long time. As soon as he is back we check-in for breakfast. We have lovely food, DD had pancakes, sausage and strawberry sauce, DH has the vanilla toast and I have the continental. Now everyone had been warned not to spill food down their clothes because of the photo-shoot but apparently in slow-motion strawberry sauce from DDs plate flew up into the air and landed squarely on the front of her t-shirt. We tried to clean it up but red sauce on pale blue kinda sticks out a bit so in the end she wore it back to front I think we got away with it I just hope people werent wondering what kind of a Floridian bird manages that colour poop!
We checked in at 8.45 for our Photopass session and met Hector from Madrid. He was a hoot and took lovely photos of us all around the resort. Once he transferred them to our card we ended up with 105 photos. Well we were done by 10.00 so went on over to MK it was packed out. We have been many times before and I have truly never seen it so busy. We were really only there on a mission to get the bag for DD and my birthday pin well it would be rude not to! First shop we go into has the bag result, one happy DD. The also had a hooded top and pyjama pants so she came away considerably lighter.
It was so hot and crowded that apart from a few more Photopass ops we hopped our from one air-con shop to another. At the watch shop DD found a green watch she liked and DH brought my birthday present a silver ring with cut out Mickeys it is very special
. I had lots of birthday greetings from cast members and even holiday-makers too.
We decided to get most of the gifts for family while we there again doing our bit for the environment - I won't give the game away though as they haven't received them yet. I didnt really want to leave just yet as I knew we wouldnt be back again for a good few years (if even that soon
) so we wandered around for a bit, Philarmagic was only showing a 20 minute wait so we went in it was actually much less than this and we enjoyed the cool darkness of the theatre. From here we went on to Carousel of Progress, which appeared to get stuck after the first set so we watched it again when we started moving again everyone clapped and cheered it was so funny.
At one point in the afternoon we tried to lose DH so t hat we could get him a t-shirt to say thanks for the being holiday chauffeur it was meant as a compliment despite the t-shirt being a Grumpy 37
.
As we walked back towards Main Street the parade had just started so we stopped, watched and took a few more photos. By the time we worked our way to the exit we were hot and tired and completely to get a Photopass picture in front of the train station so back in we went, job done and back out as quickly.
Ooh nearly forgot I had a Magical Moment, when Goofy phoned me in a shop to wish me a happy birthday how could he have known!!!!!!! I got a certificate and a CM called Lori sang to me.
So monorail, tram, car, hotel and then we start to pack. I had real visions of needing to buy another suitcase so we started early just in case more shopping was needed. Panic averted everything fitted at a squeeze and we had the extra allowance on the way back.
We decided to re-visit Earl of Sandwich for tea we loved the food and the atmosphere in the square loads of kids and parents were up dancing this time it was lovely to watch everyone in the holiday mood. Once back at the hotel DD and DH spend some time in the pool while I sit at a table drinking .
Cocktail count 1 - wooooo-hooooo
Well it isnt a Pina Colada (as in the trip report title) but I am setting sail with Captain Morgan so I think the title can remain...
So, either the evening was getting warmer or I was a teeny bit tipsy but it was my birthday and I can still read back what I wrote (just). The drink that I had poolside was supposed to be shared but DH was in the pool so long that a refill was needed by the time he returned even the ice had been consumed
.
Cocktail count 2 just couldnt resist
We talked late into the evening and DH expressed a wish to stay at the Grand Floridian for his 50th I hope we can
Noteworthies:
When we reached the car at MK the temperature in the car read 108 degrees it dropped down to 93 once we got going but it was hot, hot, hot.
