GirlsonTour Day 2 May 11th 2006
Before I go any further with my trip reports I had better explain that even though we have been to Florida for the past 2 years, Kara has not been with us due to University commitments and exams. We took Kara to Florida when she was 6 years old, but it was so unmemorable that none of us can remember where we stayed or what parks we visited (if any!!). I always call this holiday pre-DIS!!! So everything is fresh and new for Kara. Lucy and I had decided to make a big effort not to take things for granted, as you do when you have been numerous times!!
After a wonderful nights sleep, mainly due to the fact that I had ordered a roll-away bed for Lucy therefore having a bed each, we were all wide awake at 4.45am!!! All those weeks of planning and we were finally here. Walked over to the PM and grabbed a coffee and croissant (neither of which I have in England why do you eat totally different on holiday?) . Our plan was to go to Animal Kingdom, mainly to ride EE first and then do what we could without overdoing it on the first day.
I had realised that without my husband we had no-one to carry a back-pack, and I wasnt going to cart everyones stuff around all day! We waited for the shop to open and I bought a Tinkerbelle fanny pack it was to be a god-send and well worth the $18. I limited the amount of stuff that we could take to the bare minimum park tickets (which doubled as room keys), money, spare travellers cheque, lip protection cream, camera, autograph book, large biro, cigarettes and lighter (my one and only vice - honestly!!). We always use the sun cream that you put on just once a day so that we dont have to bother taking that.
The infamous fanny pack - bulging at the seams!
Got to AK at about 8.20am, swapped the voucher Lucy had got on the EE site for a free photo at Guest Services and were second in the queue, the talking plant came out of nowhere (cant remember seeing this in previous years) and Lucy loved it. Let into the park and dashed (walk dont run) to EE .got FP, rode it twice (according to us all it was a wicked ride!!) and then sauntered over to the Safari. Back to EE to use FP, Rapids, Dino Land to ride Dinosaur and waste money on the fairground games. All of those under our belt we were suddenly hungry. All the thoughts on going to Flaming Tree BBQ went out of the window ..we want food and we want it now .ended up eating at Resaurantosaurus. 2 Burgers, 10 chicken nuggets, 3 fries and 1 large Sprite were consumed in record time and we were off again.
Its Tough to Be a Bug (which I swear Kara screamed the loudest when the bugs run underneath your bum!!) and then onto the Lion King Show. Whilst waiting for the LKS the heavens opened luckily we only had to wait a couple of minutes (enough to get a drenching). I love this show and we tried to sit in a section that we hadnt been in before we were the giraffes!!
After the show Lucy wanted to get some autographs I sit and wonder how many more years she will want these? The first year we went you can understand her wanting to meet them, second year she had a fad about the pressed coins now it seems to be characters, coins and pins!!!! Kara and I decide to send her on her way with the autograph book, pen and camera whilst we sat in the sun, which had come out after the downpour.
What seemed like 10 hours later Lucy emerges from one of the walkways and we all look at the photos oh, do you remember the days before digital cameras?
We walk over to catch the train to Rafikis Planet Watch. This is another thing that Lucy loves to do at AK. My friend has 5 goats and only lives round the corner, but no, we have to go all the way to Florida for Lucy to brush some rather large bellied goats!!!
Quick sit in the sun whilst Lucy is doing her bit with the goats, catch train back again and watch the Parade from Africa outside the Harambe Fruit Market. When the parade was over we walked right behind it to the exit, bus home and hit the pool for an hour.
Later on that night we walked over to the PM and had an evening meal. Bed at 9.30pm. This seemed to be our little routine because apart from the 2 ADRs we ate every night at the PM and the latest we were in bed was 11pm!!
