Girl Scouts earning their way to Disney!

So glad to hear you're having a good time! I hope your YES program is awesome!

thank you for popping in! Go have fun and eat a Mickey ice cream bar for us!

Just planned a carwash for August. Hopefully we can schedule two of them. July has flown by!

I sat down and planned out 10 meetings to discuss and plan everything from program to packing list to hotel to food to discussing their concerns and fears.

Man I need to start my meetings!!!

The 2015 prices came out and my travel agent gave a quote for our trip. Her prices were reasonable, but I'm praying for a discount code.

My biggest dilemma right now is do we do the QSP and pay for dinner or do garden grocer for breakfasf and lunch and pay for dinner. Such a dilemma. Im going to let the scouts calculate and decide.

Its starting to stress me out a little and Im a yr out!!

Personally, I think Garden Grover delivery charges are ridiculous. Plus their prices are jacked up.

I don't recall you saying if ya'll are driving ?

I agree their prices are high. Im debating a suitcase of food to cut our food cost down. Right now its estimated at $200 per scout, but im still debating that QSP.

We're flying! 2hr flight to 24hr drive - 13,000 miles - I love my scouts but not that much! Plus flights quotes are crazy right now thru Jetblue Im ready to scream.

Update - talked with travel agent again and was able to price out dining plan option. If only flights can go down we will be all set. Just sent a group form over to Jetblue for an estimate. 2015 rates dont come out til Feb so fingers crossed.

oh my gosh, yeah, no way for the driving.

Im just wondering though, I know there's a super-target grocery, a publix and a walmart not too far away.

We've shopped at all 3, Publix, WalMart and Super-Target and their prices only seem pennies more than here at home.

Plus, there is Sams club that will pull your order for you and have it all ready to go.

I just wonder if it would be cheaper to have one of your extra adults take a cab and do the shopping, or even to have Sams club make the order and pay a taxi to pick it up.

Its a good idea. Im going to gather options, present to the troop and see what they bite at. Because even if ee do the dining plan, we still need to have a supply of water for 14 people!

-JetBlue came back saying they couldnt give quote now, they dont give discounts, but would give lowest fare available to entire group. So we wait until Feb.

Last day here. Just going to relax until we get the magical express back to the airport. Had a great time. I will do a trip report soon.

Well, if you do end up doing the dinning plan, and just need to have water/etc.

Don't forget about WalMart online.

You can order many groceries online and have them shipped right to the resort. Usually there is a code you can Google for free shipping for orders over X amount.

Finally home. Only problem all trip was our flight was delayed. Got on the magical express at 3:50pm and when we got to the airport we found out our flight was not leaving until 10:05pm. Was originally supposed to be at 6:50. We ended up leaning at 9:30. Southwest have us a $100.00 voucher to use on a flight in the next year. Was a nice surprise. Heading to bed. Long day

So glad you had a good time! $100 voucher isn't too bad.

Good point. I keep forgetting we ordered two cases of water from Cosco one yr and had it delivered to our hotel room.

Good news! My adult who said she didnt want to go was saying she didnt want to do program (can only bring two adults for ten scouts). Still wants to go on trip!

For those troop leaders who have gone before, what are things you purchased for the troop that you were thankful to have and what are things that were a waste of funds?

I was the second adult on a 12 day trip to Ca 2 disney days and one in universal plus San Francisco etc. Three girls are ambassadors 16 and 17 year olds, and one 12 year old. We had a GREAT time. What I wanted to mention because I know you are flying is another troop in our town just did London for six days. One of the girls in the troop wrote a letter to the airline and they discounted their flight. I'm not sure of the ages of your girls or if one of them would like to write to the airline but every little bit helps. :)

Tammy - thank you! I did write to JetBlue, but they only give the lowest price for the group for that flight. However I haven't written to Southwest, so I'll give it a try. 12 days what a great trip! I agree every little bit does help. Thank you! What were the things your troop purchased special for your trip?

TinaLaLa,
We made suprise bags for the girls to carry lunches etc into the park. Each girl chose her favorite disney character and then one of the moms had someone on the disboards (I've seen her stuff, I'm sure you know who) design mouse ears and our leader transfered them onto hobby lobby bags with iron on shirt transfere paper.

Also before we left cards were given to the families of the girls and their family wrote her a letter or joke, someone with an older brother did a code for at the end of the trip and we were gone 12 days. The girl had to collect his four parts before she could read it. Our leader chose a nice photo box from Michaels. Those ones that are always a dollar and hold 4 x 6 photos. The boxes represented something about that girl, for example my daughter got a New York box because that is where her grad trip was supposed to be but hubby says WDW so it is a suprise. Each night no matter how tired we were we got out our boxes and read our card from "aunt Mary or Dad". The girls really looked forward to it. They were just note card sized cards with bright envelopes.

I will try to upload a pic of the bags, later I' m not a tech savy person.

The issue is, I have a unique opportunity to request a donation from a GS related board and Im trying to ask for reasonable things and not be greedy. The Memory Maker and scrapbook cost are on my list, but thats $500 which is a lot to ask for. I dont want to waste a dime of our funds!!

So wasn't our best CARWASH, but each girl made $20 each. $20 we didn't have before. Plus they had so much fun!

Funny I had someone start to tell me how to plan a Disney trip, and things I should do with troop. Thanks but the scouts are going to do most of the planning. I'm actually doing really well holding back from doing any planning. I've done a ton of research , but the planning will be all them!
