Ginger Family Getaway: 8/30-9/6 Trip Report DAY 7 & 8 UPDATED 10/2

Hi Betsy!

Followed you over from Sooze's Hoosier DIS meet thread. Sounds like your trip planning is in full swing. Your DD is a cutie!

I can't believe the number of Hoosiers on the DIS. We're just coming out of the woodwork, aren't we? We live up in Fishers and I know exactly where Lapel is! I grew up in Fort Wayne and DH grew up in NW Indiana (Valpo area). He lived in CA for a little while and we lived in Washington, DC for a bit, but are back home now to raise the kids.

We're not going to WDW again until October, so I've got a month or so to figure out my ADRs. We've got a DIS meet planned for one of the days, so that should be fun.

The one thing I'd suggest is possibly paying OOP for the Cinderella's Castle meal instead of your two other meals. I've heard that it's cheaper to just pay for CRT because you'll end up spending more on two other meals than one there. Just something to think about....

We took both of our daughters when they were about two and it was awesome! Each of them had a great time, even though they couldn't ride many of the big rides. They just enjoyed the atmosphere. It's a good thing you have grandma coming too. It's hard when you have to do the Baby swap thing for every ride. Our older daughter wanted to ride all the rides, but the little one couldn't. DH and I had to take turns. That's one of the reasons we took an adults only trip for our 10th anniversary just a few months ago. It was great and I highly recommend it!

Have fun planning! Can't wait to hear about your trip!

Jodi

Hi Jodi - welcome to my PTR thread. Thanks!! We think she's pretty cute, too. We've discovered she's becoming a little diva when she doesn't get her own way. It's the red hair
!!

My mom is from the Hebron/Kouts area... I'm sure your DH knows of those little towns! I was amazed by all the Hoosier DISers too. DH is originally from the Clinton, MD area - he and I used to live in Fishers when we first got married. Over in Sunblest Apartments off of 116th St. Boy, how things have changed in our lives!

I was thinking about paying OOP for CRT... just wasn't sure if we could do that since I have us "marked" as using the DDP when making the reservation instead of paying in full. DH would rather pay OOP for it anyway - if we can't, I think our 2 cheapest TS meals are around $24 and $20, so it's not that big of a difference anyway (if I'm thinking clearly!).

DH and I really enjoyed our mommy/daddy only trip back in January 2007, but we missed DD so bad. Every baby reminded us of her. I am very glad we're taking Granny along!! My mom will definitely have fun with her grandkids. DH and I are planning on taking the nephew to the MK's evening EMH on 8/31. Will be lots of fun!

Betsy- I LOVE THE HAIR!! :goodvibes It looks great!:thumbsup2

Thank you!! You're such a sweetie. I am feeling so much more confident after getting the new hairdo. I was really glad that DH liked it so well.

Don't feel bad - it's boring here too. I can't wait for spring weather so I can take some walks with Aubree and go shopping with her. I need to get out of the house more, but I hate the cold! Brr!

How cool that you will be eating at CRT!! When I have a girl that will be my VERY FIRST ADR!! My boys just dont seem interested LOL

I hope you can book that ADR for a little daughter very soon!!!

Hope to have more updates soon... have a great week everyone!

Hey there! Just caught the link in your siggie and decided to join in on the fun! Unfortunately, I'm at school right now and can't see any of the pictures in your report.. I'll have to check that out when I get home.

You live in Lakeland Farms, right? (I think I remember you saying that a while ago.) I drove through Austin Lakes (that's where Shaelyn's babysitter lives) after that storm... I couldn't BELIEVE how BAD the damage was... Glad to hear you came out of it okay... how scary!

Looking forward to meeting you in a few weeks!!  I would LOVE to have Shae meet Aubree.. they could be red-headed friends, but I think she'll be with a sitter due to my performances and stuff. But, what the heck, we live so darn close, we should schedule our own GINGER DISmeet!!

Think about it.. maybe this summer when I'm done with school we could meet at the library or McD's or something.

Okay.. carry on with your Pre-Trippie!

Hi there! So glad you stopped by!

We were very lucky - had my first meeting with the contractors last week, so hopefully we can get our repairs started soon.

I would love for Aubree to have a friend nearby. Especially sweet little Shae! A GINGER DISmeet would be very fun. We will definitely have to set up something.

Your trip sounds great..... AKL is a place I hope to take a detour to this trip! Can't wait to read more! Your little girl is too cute! What a fun age to visit WDW- is she into princesses yet?

Thanks! Lately she has been more into Wow Wow Wubbzy... :confused3 That said, she does recognize and name many of the Disney characters, but hasn't shown much interest in the princesses yet. I'm trying to nudge her towards the Disney characters! :rolleyes1

And now for an update...

Spoke with Debbi at Coral Reef this morning. I had read here on the DIS about the diver signs for special occasions and had called & left a message re: doing this for my mom's 71st birthday. She was so sweet - she found our reservation and said they did have an opening for the diver sign. I asked that the sign say "Happy 71st Birthday Joyce! We love you!" She also gave me her email address so I could send her some pics for the personalized menu. Then I went ahead and ordered the standard 6" chocolate cake. It was $12.50, which will be added to our bill. I had thought about ordering a larger cake (I saw some awesome ones for $40), but my mom's going to love this just as well.

I am so excited - the only person who will know about this is DH (and you, my PTR readers!!! LOL) in case something doesn't work out in the arrangements. It's awesome that they do this for free anyway!

I had already picked out the photos and sent them to Debbi a little while ago. This will be so cool!! I've never eaten at Coral Reef, so it will be a new dining experience for all of us... :cool1:

JUST AN UPDATE: Was contacted today (7/28) from someone at Epcot re: our cake order. I had read about the prices going up, and it's true. After being given my choices, I chose the 6" white with whipped cream icing and an edible Mickey head on it. It was $21.

I'm jumpin in! I just got a haircut yesterday too! I am slightly ginger too:goodvibes ...moreso strawberry blonde...but.. :)

Hi Besty- thats so awsome that you got a diver- they were booked when I tryed last year- let me know how that goes!!

So excited for your family!!!

Betsy.. the Coral Reef experience will be so wonderful!! When you surprise someone with the diver, it is SO special!!

Just a warning... make sure you follow up with Debi to confirm that she got your pictures and things for the menu. I didn't do this, and ended up a teeny bit disappointed with our 'personalized' menu....

Will do!! This is one thing my mom would not expect - she really deserves this special vacation, I call her at least once a day and wish we lived closer than 45 minutes away. Aubree and I are going to visit her Granny & PoPo tomorrow!! :goodvibes

Just a couple pics of Aubree in her new Maclaren stroller this morning.

I've been having a little trouble with the buckles opening, so each day I'm going to practice. (We have another stroller that we use for everyday.)

They're finally loosening up, but it doesn't help that my fingers are very weak from my CMT. DH has no problem opening them, but I want to make sure I can easily get Aubree in & out of her stroller on my own.

The diver was such a hit with my 4 year old. We even got a table right beside the tank. Everyone sang Happy birthday too!

Love the pink stroller... maybe if I am having a girl we can get one like that!

Just wanted to show off my little Irish lass...

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!

I wanna go to Disney World today, too!
We were there on St. Patrick's Day. There was lots of green as in normal wearing green, but there were some crazy get-ups, as well. It was kind of fun to see how far some people went with it.
I'll be glad to read along on your report, because by the time you go, I will have started a new school year. I'll need all the happiness I can get!
Congratulations on the weight loss. I wish I could do the same.

Slainte Aubree!!

:)

(from another not so little lass!)

Thank you!!

I didn't do too well on the diet today. Too much tasty food at our family's Easter lunch! I'll get back on tomorrow!

Here is a pic of Aubree and I before our Hoosier DIS meet last night. She had so much fun and loved meeting everyone (as did Jon & I).

This one is her strutting around with a fake stalk of celery. She's ready to eat!

The Easter Bunny stopped by! Most of the goodies are Aubree's and the basket in the back is for our niece who's staying with us over her spring break.

I couldn't wait for her to play with this carrot bat! I'm sure I'll regret this one!

Hope everyone had a Happy Easter!!
