Gifts for the crew?

Great discussion. Besides cash (which the Kids Club CM's aren't allowed to accept), we have tried with mixed results, to give small consumable items that crew members would likely pay $$'s for during their 1/2 day-off the ship each week. Toiletry supplies? Phone minutes, candy/gum?

+ comments on the evaluation are key as well.

I will do extra tips and comments, of course. I was thinking something to eat.

we always brought American candy with us/ think big Halloween size bags. But with COVID the crew seemed a little leary so we handed out pre-packaged Mardi Gras beads and of course money.

FWIW, on my trans Atlantic cruise a few years back, we stopped in Canada 3 times. And at one port was a HUGE warehouse typed grocery store, I went there for some cough medicine (OTC). While there I noticed a bunch of crew members from various ships in port all in the snacks aisle. The one with salty snacks. There was some kind of famous spicy potato chips made in Canada that was a big seller as were Pringles in various flavors. There was a guy re-stocking the shelves and he told me it was a very popular aisle for ship crews. So I bought 3 snacks - at least one was Pringles - and gave them to my room steward when I got back to the ship and he was very pleased. I suspect there are a lot of options for sweets on the DCL . . but can't remember a lot of potato chip type things? They used to sell pretzels shaped like Mickey that were really wonderful but they are long gone. So, I always tip well, and pick up salty snacks if I see some on a port stop. Not sure with things like Skype and Facetime if phone cards are still used???

Thank you bbel for your input. These "gifts for crew" threads are always full of people saying they only want money, but that hasn't been my experience.
