My mom and I are going to my future sister-in-law's bachelorette party next weekend. (Which also begs the question, why is it a bachelorette if married women are attending??) The night will involve dinner and a visit to a piano bar - nothing too "intense". Neither of us have ever been to a bachelorette (just showers), and we're trying to figure out if giving the bride-to-be a gift is the norm? I am thinking (and hoping) the answer is no, but my mom keeps bringing it up so I thought I'd check. She already had a shower, so it's not like this is in place of one. If gifts are the norm, what type: lingerie, jewelry, etc? I love my future sister-in-law, but buying gifts is going to send me to the poorhouse if this keeps up! ;) So, what does everyone think?

I don't think a gift is necessary, I would contribute money to cover the cost of your own and the bride (to be) dinner though.

I agree with Lulu..

We go out, and split the bride's cost of dinner, drinks, taxi, whatever comes up....

Have fun, that is SOOOO much more fun than a shower :)

ditto what the they said

unless of course you're like a couple of my sister's friends. Then you run out of cash and hit up the rbride for money :rolleyes2

Thanks for the responses. We were certainly planning on paying for our own food/drinks, plus chipping in for the bride's. :)

No gifts necessary, but have lots of fun. I just hosted a bridal shower yesterday and it was so stressful, looking forward to the bachelorette party. And I am married and its called a bachelorette party since the Bride to be is not married yet

hope this helps

For my best friends bachelorette party we made her close her eyes and we handcuffed her to a blow-up doll(man) in mesh underwear:rotfl: Then we went to a comedy club where "he" sat next to her. It was hilarious. We also made her a shirt with life savers stuck to it and it was $1 to um, take one off. I know it was hopelessy immature but it was so much fun. The pictures I have from that night are priceless.BTW, this was also 10 years ago when I was much younger!

We do the buck a suck thing too  ..SO fun really, and I am 38 :rolleyes1

Gifts are not a must, but I always bring a little goodie and most likely there will be a few that will. These types of parties need silly fun gifts. Candles for a romantic night or lingerie or some silly trashy dice game Im sure if you have a Spencer's near you then you can find something lol. It doesnt have to be anything big if you decide to do it. Heck a nice bottle of bubble bath would be good.

you should take her out and get her trashed and have Pop Daddy jump out of a cake wearing a thong:banana:

You all could hire a male stripper to come to the house.

I went to a party once when that happened (it was someone's birthday party) and it was hilarious.

I hate to be the odd poster, but we always brought a gift to a bachelorette party. Of course, the guys don't bring a gift to a bachelor party! I think buying her a honeymoon appropriate nightgown would be fun! She'll be speechless when she sees what the 2 of you buy! Have fun.

I've never been to a bachelorette party witih gifts.

Most of the ones I go to start with a dinner with the mom's, aunt's grandma's whoever. Then they leave and the "younger crowd" stays around, whether married or not.

For bachelorette parties, I have brought the bride to be a special drinking glass shaped like a...well...you know!!!
(And a big one at that!!!)

I just had my bachelorette party last night and everyone bought gifts. I got lingerie, lotion, bubble bath, candles, pajamas and cherry massage oil. The massage oil was a big hit as everyone made sure to personally test it out on their hands! I know these things can start to add up in expense, but I, personally, do not expect anyone who is going to more than one shower to buy me more than one gift and if someone did not bring a gift I would not mind either. There were some people who could not come, some who would not come, and some who said they would and did not. Those who did come made me happy, and that meant the most to me. Hope you have fun!
