I know there was a thread recently about this but I can't find it now! My dd just gave me her list and I am ready to go into cardiac arrest!! Here's a sample of what she wants: A PSP, laptop, Nintento DS, a lie detector (?!?!), an Amazing Amanda doll, a Doodle Bear with a glow in the dark pen, and last but not least a cell phone.

Now I can handle the Doodle Bear but I almost passed out when I saw the cost of the Amazing Amanda doll once I googled it. I was planning on buying her an IQuest handheld (with cartidges for Science & Social Studies), the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory PS2 game, Sky High DVD, A Lava lamp and a few more small non-expensive items.

Will she be disapointed if I only get her one specific item from her list? She's at this age where it's so hard to buy for her. I guess I'm just looking for other ideas of things that could please her since I can't afford the PSP, Laptop, etc. And I just don't think she is mature enough for a cell phone. Maybe in another year or two when she is involved in more extra-curricular activities with school.

Well my 11yo girl is getting nothing from her list. She asked for a cell phone, laptop, digital camera (small enough to put in her pocket), and an iPod.

She is getting an MP3 player that was about $50 and none of the rest is even close to her list.

I'd go with one big item that fits into your budget, and then a few smaller things. My dd got a lava lamp two years ago, and still uses it almost every day!

Having the same problem with my 10 y/o almost 11 y/o DD. On her list were a lap top, cell phone, digital camera or video camera. What the ???? When I was her age I still wanted games & a doll!

Thanks guys.. I guess this was more of a vent than anything. She's at an iffy stage where I'm not sure if she really does still believe in Santa or if she's just playing me! And I'm afraid if she gets nothing on her Santa list that will spill the beans for sure. And if I can't manage to get a laptop out of Santa, then she sure can't either!!! :rotfl2:

I'll go check that other thread out now.. Thanks Taekwondo Mom!

I bought my DD a digital camera for her BDay. Samsung at Target..has 9 different screens...IT WAS THE BEST INVESTMENT!! She uses it all the time , has been responsible for it. It's one of the few gifts that hasen't been tossed aside after a week.

Alas I can't think of anything for Xmas besides "FLY">

my dd (11) has nothing like that list (and for this i am very thankful!) she has a digital camera listed (which i'm glad for-it is so much more cost effective than having to develop poorly taken photos! i'm going to get a decent but inexpensive model at walmart). my dd wants clothing (mostly tops and socks with designs on them), loads of dvds (the ones i refuse to rent for the 1000th time at the video store), some books from a series she enjoys, arts and crafts stuff and "spy stuff" (???what-am i supposed to order some night vision binoculars from "soldier of fortune" magazine???). i am going to grab a few things from the list, and pick out a few others i think she will enjoy.

i think my dd is not so much into the techno stuff because her school has a zero tolerance policy on any electronic gear brought onto campus so she is'nt exposed to much of whats popular with alot of kids.

as far as a cell phone goes-no way, no how. maybe when she's 16 and has a part time job to pay the bill, but until then it ain't gonna happen.

oh-i did get her a cheap cd player with headphones (if i have to hear her "hi hi puffy" cd again i will go nuts!!!!)>

best of luck shopping.
