We are invited to my cousin & her fiance's new house for Thanksgiving & housewarming. I'm bringing an appetizer - dip & tortilla chips (not too original but I'm not much of a cook). I found a cute ceramic pumpkin with a lid and a ceramic plate in the shape of a leaf - although it's not a set. I was going to put the dip in the pumpkin & then the chips would go on the leaf plate. They would keep the them as my housewarming gift. Is it tacky that I'm using the gift for the appetizer? Should I also include another gift or put just put the food on regular dishes & buy them something else?

I would serve the chips and dip in my own dishes and just give her the gift seperately. I don't think it's tacky, but it just doesn't seem right to me to give a gift that's already in use and she will have to wash right away.

I like the idea, I have heard of that before. Have fun!

If you are making the dip at home, include a recipe for the dip too-even if it is simple.

I agree with this. I also agree with those who think it's a great idea to use the dishes for the dip and chips, especially since traditionally housewarming gifts are food, plants, wine or other small things - not wrapped gifts. This way you are giving them something to enjoy in their new home without making a big deal of the gift. It's perfect!

I like it and I would love to receive it as well! :)

I think its cute and even cuter with the recipe, and you could add a gourmet dip mix too.

Well thanks. I was going to chuck the idea but I'll say majority rules!
I'll type up the recipe & include that - good idea.:goodvibes
Now I don't have to start another thread - what were some of your favorite housewarming gifts.;)

I think it is a great idea. At my BFF's housewarming party, another guest baked up a casserole in a really nice dish that was her housewarming gift.

As far as my favorite HW gift, I've only ever received 3 - a $100 Trader Joes GC, a set of photo frames, and a candle. I'd say my fave was the GC.
