I'm at a loss - I don't know her very well other than she's sweet, loves disney (former CM / college rep) lost her mom recently and has no siblings.

Ideas please!

Did you try asking your son for some suggestions of things that she likes or things that she might collect?

I'm 23 and I like the usual things: books, wine, cosmetics, clothes, accessories, candles etc.

No :lmao: I made the mistake of saying I had something for him... and added I had something for her too... oops. I've been looking since September, but wanted the perfect gift - not too mom like, not too 'eh'

Here are some suggestions
-if she has a iPod a iTunes gift card might be a good idea
-gift cards to Best Buy and other stores
-ask your son if she wears perfume

Does she like getting mani and pedi's, you could get her a gift certificate for one. Or maybe a gift card to a spa for a facial or quick massage.

How about a great photo album? or photo frames?

I bought my son's girlfriend cashmere gloves in an off-white color (under $40 from Lands End.)

My DS' DF have been together for several years. She is now 23yo but when she was 21yo I got her several awesome gifts. I got her 5 months of a personal trainer at the gym near her college for Jan-June. She was training for a Marathon and wanted/needed more conditioning. I had DS go and check out the gym, meet the trainers in advance before I booked it. She LOVED that!!! I also (that year) bought her a "knock-off" burberry wallet....I did not care if she ever used the wallet but inside in all the little slots I put gift cards....Victoria Secret, Express, American Eagle, Cvs, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Yankee Candle. She was thrilled.

Every year since, I have paid for a years worth of the gym where she is now living. She LOVES that!!! She is a complete health nut.

But..if you buy perfume...MAKE sure you KNOW she'll like it... that's an iffy one...

Holy cow....are you rich?? LOL - I want to adopt you!!

Since you know she loves Disney.. maybe a Snowglobe? Those are always beautiful and timeless...

My little sis is 21 and she is hard to buy for- I always get her a GC at the salon she likes for a haircut, whatever-maybe it's put toward hilights etc. She also loves GC for her fave tanning place. And her fave perfume is a nice choice.

Good thoughts - but she's in CT(home) /SC (school) & I have no idea where she goes ;)

I hear you on the perfume - I'm allergic & know for sure how that gift could bomb if not done just right.

I love the snowglobe idea :wizard:

WOW. I'd marry your DS if I were her just to be in your family :rotfl:
I'd love to be able to mimic that idea, but unfortunately I can't come close to a gift like that -- oh wait - I forgot to check my lottery ticket... Maybe I can hehe

Cashmere gloves are a favorite of mine and I never thought of giving her a pair... great idea...

Question - does anyone from the Atlanta/west SC region know if they'd get any use down there?

I *think* she has an ipod. good one :thumbsup2
Don't think best buy is in their area down south - not without a hike at least.

Books... hmmm - college kids always need gift cards to Barnes & Noble... hmmmm ;)

I'm not that age anymore, but a nice sweater or a fleece pullover (from LL Bean or LandsEnd) would be something I would've liked and used.

If you've got a Coach outlet nearby, a small wallet would be great.

An engagement ring?

That way it could be a gift for you in about a year or so!!

hehehehe

Twinkle Bug, I am almost 21 and my DBF's mother does Thanksgiving gifts, they are to get everyone into the spirit of Christmas. She gave me ornaments that are made of jingle bells, they are bears, the holy family, and penguins. She mentioned that they were for my tree someday. She has many sets like this (made of the bells) and gives them to DBF's sister in law every year as well. She told me it was a bit of a tradition. The comment was WAY more meaningful then the gift. It was more the thought that she was including me in their family traditions and giving me a gift that she can see her son and I using together!!!
If your son and his girl are serious anything showing her you want her in your family would be amazing.

My old stand-by for the GFs was a gift card to a favorite store - Pier One, Macy's, Bath & BodyWorks or the Body Shop. The amount varied, depending on how long they'd been together, and more once they were engaged.

When we were engaged last year, my MIL bought me a giftcard to J. Crew for Christmas. She had asked my DH (DF then) for store suggestions, and it was great since we flew from CA to CT for Christmas. I wouldn't get her anything too large, because I left so much stuff at my parents house to avoid traveling with it.

You could put together a winter blah basket for her. Include a board game, some treats, a couple of gift cards for some chain restaurants (that way she could use them at home or at school easily) that she could grab a quick bite to eat at. Something to enjoy through January when things are a little quieter and dreary.

The only other idea I had was something from philosophy but I'll confess I love their stuff so I'm bias. I like their recipe inspired bath and body kits, but I like to smell like red velvet cake ;) . Right now they have one called cookie exchange. I thought it would be cute to put together a basket with it and then some real cookie making items.

I'm a bit older but:
Bath and Body works lotions/shower gels
A disney sweat shirt/t shirt
A gift card to bookstore

You asked about the cashmere gloves being used in the Atlanta area??

YES!! I'ts cold and cashmere is nice :goodvibes
