So I am thinking about buying my teen daughter and teen son gift cards for our upcoming trip. They are both bringing friends and I figure it would be easier than tracking me down for money. I am not sure this is the best idea though. But for them thought maybe less chance of them loosing that compared to cash. What are your thoughts on this?

Also is there things they can't buy with girft cards?

Thanks so much!
Holly

Some wandering carts take cash only. The one that comes to mind is the cart with the light up toys. Most other places in the park take them.

I like the idea. It should also help reinforce the notion of the finite nature of money. Once it is gone, it is gone :thumbsup2

Why would cash be more easily lost than a GC?

Well, I suppose if they will *wear* a lanyard and keep the GC and ticket etc in the lanyard, then that is better than keeping it in a wallet. But if it's in a wallet I figure cash is just as easily lost as a GC.

Don't get me wrong, I love a Disney GC (I keep 'em as souvenirs once they are at zero), but for a teen I'd probably just do cash.

Though...that's just going by my siblings. Check in with me in 6 years when I have a 13 year old. :)

It depends on if they're older teens or younger teens. Gift cards are good for the older teens, but I like my younger teens to check in fairly often, so needing money ensures that. :cool2:

Most DTD stores won't accept the GCs. This is also true for wandering vendors, and a few places in NOS (one example is the umbrella carts and some of the artists).

We went last year with my then 6 yr old son, and he used G/C's. and cash.

We will be at DL at the end of this month , now 7yrs old and again he will be using gift cards and some cash.

As a teen I wouldnt really care, as long as I had something to buy stuff with.. lol.

Have fun.

Honestly, I would do both. I have a teen DD and I prefer to do half and half, that way she has both and she gets to decide which to use and in what order.

Have you or your kids take a picture of the gift card, if it's lost it can be replaced, so no real cash lost - a hassle, but better than if you dropped $20 somewhere. I think there's a number to call if you lost on the back, or it can be done at a disney retail location.
