Ok...I'm the room parent in my child's class, so I will be getting the teacher gift. I'm getting her a gift card, so where to? I was thinking Target or Meijer, but wondered if anyone else had an opinion. I don't know her that well, so I can't figure out anything more personal, as far as where to go.

How about getting one of those Visa/Mastercard ones from Walmart? If you do that, she can use it anywhere. My DD got one from Walmart as a gift, and I think it cost the person who bought it something like a $3.00 service charge.

I, too, was going to suggest a Visa or AmEx one (AmEx I think has a service charge unless you purchase it on your AmEx or something like that). Or a local mall?

We had trouble returning something using a visa gift card. We used the whole card and when we need to return what we had bought, there was no card to put the money back on and they did not do cash refunds. Ended up with store credit we did not really want.

How much is it for?? 25 or 50, I say a nice chain restaurant card. Also check if your local mall has a card that can be used at any store. Those are VERY nice to get. Wal-mart or Target is fine too. I have gotten a few to a local grocery store and I was trilled with that. I however am also trilled with a 5.00 starbucks card:cool1:

Target or Meijer sounds perfect :)

The Visa/AmEx cards are nice too - they can be difficult to use, so I've learned to spend them all in once place so that I don't have to keep track of how much is left. I've also had some semi-embarrassing situations where the restaurant I was eating in or hotel I was checking out of did not accept the card for one reason or another.

For our teachers I always go to our local mall and buy a gift card from there.
It is good for any store in the mall and all the big name stores are there. This way the teacher has options.

AmEx does not carry a service charge (Visa that does) I think that would be the best option because the teacher could use it anywhere for whatever.

I've had some problems with the visa ones. Finding out the remaining balance can be tricky. I also wondered if I should get one big one, or two smaller ones. I have $100 to spend.

I would stick with the store gift cards. I have had problems with a Visa one too. Buying two is a great idea- like two gifts in one. Maybe a Target gift card, then a grocery store or restaurant gift card?

I vote for Meijer. I love Meijer. I received a Meijer gift card last year from one of the kids I babysit. Of course I love Target too, so either of those would be perfect.

I usually let my DS pick where he wants to get the gift card from for his teacher. He usually chooses Amazon.

Not sure where in West MI you live but I was thinking How about Joanns/Michaels so she can get crafty stuff for classroom/herself and a gift card to Meijer so she can use it for general Merch or Groceries. Just and idea. If you live anywhere near where I used to live the Mall is non exsistant.
