Ok, here goes... August 16

I have never done this before so forgive me if it's not in the right format or like others you have read. :goodvibes

First off, we did not realize until we were told by a CM on day 2, but we started out with 35 Counter Service Meals which really did not differentiate between Child and Adult meals. The credits are equal because some eateries do not actually have kid's meals, so Disney just gives Counter Service Credits as a generic thing. It is up to you to order from the kid's menu, the CM checking you out has no idea how many Kid's Counter Service meals are available or have been used. Some even encourage you to get a dessert because a kid's meal comes with a cookie. BTW the dessert is included so why not...

August 16 we arrived at the Port Orleans Riverside @ 2PM and were able to check in right away. We requested building 14 to be close to boats/bus and food court/ gift shop,(FIL has bad knees) but because we arrived on Sunday building 14 was not available so we got building 27 which really was not much farther out than you would walk from the back of Walmart parking lot to the store. After dropping our carry-ons in the room we went to the food court to buy our refillable mugs.

1) My DD (9) wanted a kid's pizza meal, Counter-Service Credit, so I got her one which included a small bottle of juice/milk etc. (we took that to the room for later) but she used her mug to get root beer. DD ate all of the pizza which means it had to be REALLY good! 2) I used a snack credit for two pieces of garlic toast with marinara sauce. Toast was crunchy but flavorful and the marinara was really good.3) My MIL & FIL split a Muffalata combo meal, Counter-Service Credit, which included a nice chunk of Carrot cake, Chips and of course a large bottle of Milk or Juice. They used their mugs for Iced tea and took their bottle of juice to the room for breakfast. Muffalata was served chilled, something that was foreign to them being from New Orleans, they said it was good along with the kettle cooked chips, and they carrot cake was excellent!Total credits used: 1 Snack, 2 Counter Service

Then after going back to the room to drop off our drinks, my husband's drink mug (his plane would not be in until 10:45 PM) and our juice/milk bottles. My DD was hoping our luggage would be there, but we had only arrived one hour before so I knew they probably would not. I was right.

We took this first hour after arrival as a chance to get to know the grounds. After dropping off the stuff in the room we headed back toward the boat dock, BTW we always took the short-cut thru the Food Court and took this opportunity to refill our mugs for the boat ride. On to DTD for some shopping!

There was no wait for the boat, it made a stop at French Quarter which we took note of for future reference. (We wanted Beignets for breakfast at least once) Also took note that boat did not start until 10AM so we would be taking a bus (DTD one is only one that goes to FQ after it picks up Riverside)

Boat ride was nice. We stopped right at the marina where Cap'n Jack's Restaurant is... we had ressies there later in the week so we were happy to have learned several helpful tips already since arriving and riding the boat, things that would save us time later on for our outings...

After hitting Goofy's Candy Shop and picking out some things to purchase later on with snack credits we went to The Pin Trader to shop around for pins to trade and then to some of the other big shops to kill time before our next meal.

Well our Food Court "Meal" was our only thing to eat since breakfast at 6AM and a few pretzels on the plane so it did not take a lot of shopping for us to be ready for Wolf Gang Puck Express. (beside the Christmas Store and behind the carousel)

At Wolf Gang Puck Express:

1) My MIL & FIL split a Rotisserie Chicken and Garlic Potatoes meal (1/2 chicken) which was good because he likes dark she likes white and the frozen yogurt with strawberries & iced tea & water. They had plenty! We decided ahead of time we would split CS meals as to not overfeed our tummies and be miserable the whole trip. (1 CS meal)

2) My DD & I split a Cheese Pizza meal with frozen yogurt & sprinkles and Iced tea. (1 CS meal)

Total Credits used: 2 CS meals

We all felt very satisfied and were very comfortable walking around after our meal. We shopped a bit and then took the boat back to our resort. When we got to our room there our luggage was ready to be unpacked so that 's what we did! We went thru all of our books & brochures and maps for our week's activities while we waited for DH to arrive!

DH called around 11:00 to say he should be at the hotel by midnight... so we run back to the food court only to realize that the Muffalata shop closed at 10 and the grill closed at 11PM ( we thought that it was ALL open until midnight) So I call DH and he said get "whatever". I ended up getting him this yummy cheesy pasta with marinara and meat sauce which came with garlic toast and carrot cake and a drink, which of course was his chocolate milk for the AM and I filled his mug with tea. (1 CS used)

Total for first day... 5 CS meals, 1 snack credit. Doing GOOD!:thumbsup2

I believe in sharing CS meals, too. This time we didn't as much as we have done in the past. You are right with over stuffing tummies and being miserable. My husband would attest to that.

great start. looking forward to more. want to know how those beignets are.

Looking forward to reading your report. We will be there the first week of January with the dining plan and will be trying all new table service restaurants, except for Coral Reef DD has not eating there yet, and are looking for some reviews to confirm or change our plan.

We also share CS meals. We only get the basic plan and spiting the meals allows us to also split a breakfast.

Great reviews so far!

Just an FYI, you can get the muffaletta hot or cold...I had it in June and they asked me how I wanted it so I said hot...it was sooo much better that way

Yes, we split breakfast too! Uhhhhh... unless you have never been to an aquarium style restaurants I would skip Coral Reef we did it in December... and don't get me wrong the food was good, but the gentlemen at the table beside us and the one at our table could not believe that the main course was not a sample size... REALLY SMALL portions!!!!!

I will get to post more soon... I am a teacher and this past couple weeks have done me in!!!

Nice to know... now everyone else reading this will know... I personally was ok with it cold, but HE on the other hand woulda preferred it hot...

REALLY almost just like Cafe Dumonde in New Orleans.... GREAT!:goodvibes

REVISED: DMIL informed me that she did not really care for the beignets... they eat them often at Cafe DuMonde and these "were not near as good" We LOVED them... we aren't SPOILED!:snooty:

DFIL & I drank coffee & hot cocoa from our food court and cinnamon roll (one Snack Credit) and bread ($.69 o.p. for two slices, honey and jam FREE!) which I toasted in the rotating toaster (took several go-rounds but it eventually toasted) the rest of the family said they were not hungry, and just got drinks in their mugs. (DFIL & I are the early riseres, the others get up just in time to get dressed to leave!)

We caught the Magic Kingdom bus early so we could check out the Poly before our 11 AM breakfast ressie. Once we got to the MK and hopped on the Monorail arriving an hour early, checked in for our ressie, then checked out the gift shops, and actually arranged a short tour of a regular double room (for future trips) and had our photo taken for the O'Hana breakfast. (I did not know that the Character meals take group photos before the meal... I woulda dressed more "tropical":rotfl:)
(BTW, Loved the size of the room and convenience of the monorail)

We were called at 11:20 for our 11 AM ressie (considering others were waiting longer, I guess that was good)

We sat at a large round table for six, so we had an extra chair for purses and jackets and a fruit tray came within about 5 minutes. We were served Mango/orange (?) juice and coffee and milk and some really good sweet bread and then a fruit tray was put in the middle of the table. It had fresh pineapple, grapes, melon, and I think strawberries. The server came around with more juice and left the pitcher for us to serve ourselves, then within the first fifteen minutes another fruit tray came at the request of my FIL. (next time we will say no grapes... there were A LOT of grapes)

Next came grilled seasoned potato chunks, scrambled eggs, link sausage, and bacon, biscuits and the server brought out Mickey waffles passing them out around the table. (they were my DD's favorite) The food was really good, even the sausage which I normally would not eat! The characters made their way to each table one at a time and we took plenty of pics with them and they were very animated pointing to DD's B-day button, "asking" how old she was... she LOVED it! The waitress brought a birthday cupcake with sprinkles and candle and we all sang to her. She was ecstatic!

After the cupcake, there was an announcement about a "parade" around the restaurant, and the children all got up, grabbed a maracca out of a basket on the bar and the characters paraded around the inside of the restaurant with the children! Great fun!

Overall, great food, excellent service, and great atmosphere!

Total credits used: 5 TS meals

After the meal, DD changed into more comfy clothes and I headed back to the resort to return our refillable mugs and DD's dress and our photo to our room. The others were to hop the Poly bus to Animal Kingdom. It started raining as we were leaving, and I got a little wet after getting off of the monorail. THEY got wet going to the bus (apparently the sidewalk was not covered)

By the time I got back to the resort, the rain had stopped and they had arrived at AK. They had our itenerary, yet they just completely ignored it (despite DD's insisting that I knew what to do first!) and ended up in the back of the park, wasting A LOT of time! Oh well, nobody HAS to listen to me anyway...

I freshened up a bit and caught the AK bus (waited 5 minutes) and made it to the park only one hour after them, yet they could not leave the bird show to meet me for another 30 minutes. So I shopped a bit while waiting for them. The bird show was near the back of the park and my plan was to start at Camp Minnie/Mickey... I was not deviating from my plan!:snooty:

We met our friends in CMM and got all of the autographs & photos with all of the characters, and turned out our friends had a gift for DD! I nice white hooded zip-up sweathirt with 2009 and the characters embroidered on it... it was for them to AUTOGRAPH! SHE was ecstatic once again!

After the autographs we rode the train to Raffi's and enjoyed this a lot! Then it was time to ride the last train back to go eat. We separated from our friends promising to see them later and went to grab a bite. DD wanted chicken nuggets which we got near Dinosaur area (will add this name later) This is where the CM explained that child's CS was not really counted as a child's meal. She was able to get anything we could get (combo meal) with a separate dessert! She wanted kid's meal but CM insisted she get a regular dessert... We got half chicken meals and brownies at Flame Tree BBQ. We split DMIL & I shared and the men each got the ribs I believe.

Food was good, and it was cool enough under the pavillion, as it was about 6 PM and it had just rained a bit while we were at Raffi's. DMIL & DFIL probably would have prefered we had eaten indoors, as we had ducks at our feet begging for food! :rotfl: (where we got kid's meal, the fixin bar had a nice selection of toppings for burgers, looked like warm sauteed mushrooms & onions etc.)
Total credits used: 4 CS meals

After DD played in the dinosaur area a bit, we caught the bus back to the resort and went for a swim! Refilled our mugs and microwaved some popcorn in food court which we shared with a bunny near our table outside the pool area.

We turned in early this night, so no late night food court run...

Total Credits used today: 5 TS, 4 CS, 1 Snack Credit

Thanks for the update. Did you get a group picture with the characters or just a photo of the family when you first went to the restaurant? Is it like Chef Mickey in front of something?
