This is the one ride we all equally love in our family & poor DS won't be able to experience it! :sad1: I wish it was something he couldn't ride like Matterhorn or Indiana! No offense to January travelers who love those.

I almost want to reschedule (difficult) or make sure we go back for a day JUST to go on there for DS's benefit! So sad..... :sad2:

Sorry, no sympathy here. HM always goes down at that time of year to remove the holiday makeover, as does IASW, except this year when it is closing late Jan for a year long rehab. Just be happy that you're going and just think of the dozens of other attractions that you and your kids will enjoy. 1 attraction isn't going to spoil the entire trip.

IASW is down too!?!?!?!? Maybe we should reschedule for February......I wonder why IASW is not listed as those down on the calendar?

If it makes a difference, IASW isn't scheduled to go down until late January. Probably after HM reopens.

Sorry if it wasn't clear. It's scheduled to go down late January and not open until October or something around then.

I suggest pushing your trip toward the first week of January... would be the best time to go...

Im also guessing that Matterhorn will be going down for a long rehab again... rumor is that there will be new trains aka require to redo the launching platform...

Sorry, but I am with DLR29 on this one. This news is over five years old. HM goes down every January. It is always a bummer when a fave is down, but you can't have it all. See "HydroGuy's High Season/Off Season Tradeoff Rule" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1199852

Well it may be old news, but its always okay to post a disappointment here on the dis! I'll be there that same time and was disappointed to see Monsters Inc down.

The good news is that the Electrical Parade will be running that weekend at DCA which was a very unexpected surprise to me. So there is a silver lining in there someplace.

Old news - but new news to someone who just found out!! ;)

I agree about the silver lining...I was really sad when I found out about HM but now I'm just excited I'm going!

Amy, you know this better than anyone - so kudos for sticking up for any newbies. :) But surprise/disappoinment about HM being down in January - or any ride being down in off-season - is akin to someone going in summer and then being surprised/disappointed that it is hot. I read another thread on the WDW board today about someone who is "devastated" (their word) that a favorite ride will be down in January at MK.

MagicalMom - kudos to you for being here gathering info before your trip and not letting your surprise happen when you show up at the gate. Good luck in your planning. I am sure you will have a great trip. :thumbsup2

Everyone out there in the newbie category - be aware - off-season trips have the benefit (usually) of lower crowds, but the drawback (usually) of closed rides and reduced entertainment. If you go into your trip with that in mind you can save yourself some disappointment down the road.

If you go to DLR frequently (at least twice a year) off-season works much better because whatever is closed the first time is usually open the next time.

If you go to DLR less frequently (once every year or two, or less), unless you really know what you are doing, put some serious thought into visiting during high season when it is most crowded. That is when Disney tries to have all rides up and all entertainment maxed out. That would be Spring Break, Summer, and Holidays.

Sorry, I will put my soap box away now.... ;)
