GF Lobby is getting a makeover!

Unfornately for me, the GF lobby was being refurbished during my stay. On Monday, all of the carpet was ripped out and the main lobby area was blocked off with small white fences. The workman were about finished with the carpet when I left on Tuesday. The carpet took 2 weeks to weave and the company had to build a special loom for the order. All work was expected to be complete by this morning. Seating and gathering areas were available on the outer perimeter areas of the lobby as the center seating locations were inaccessible. The band and the pianist still played for all of the guests.

The design concept boards for the new lobby were on display and refreshments were served. This was located on the second floor overlook located near the monorail station. George Scammell, Design Manager, Walt Disney World Facility Asset Management was on hand for two days to answer any questions.

All of the fabric colors were in keeping with the Victorian theme. The carpet was sage green, peach and light blue. The design boards showed samples of some of the new furniture pieces. I saw love seats, couches, lounge chairs and a pretty chair with a heart shaped back.

I'm sorry I didn't take a picture. I hope I am not repeating old news. The GF will look beautiful this Christmas Season.

I can't wait to see it. We would love to stay there for our Nov-Dec trip, but we just can't tear ourselves away from the YC at that time of year.
We will certainly visit.

Thanks for the update! My husband and I are staying there in November during the Thanksgiving holiday. I think we will have to pop in while we are at WDW in August.

Did you happen to notice how long this rehab was going to take? We're going in a little more than a month, and I really wouldn't want the lobby undergoing a rehab while we're there.

Wendi, we were in Boca Chica with a pool view. I loved our room. We were on the 1st floor room 8126. It was so convenient. This is my all time favorite resort.

Oh, thanks for the update. We often visit the GF to dine and walk around. We always loved their lobby and will be looking forward to seeing the new refurbished lobby.

We LOVE Boca Chica, it may be a little bit of a walk compared to
the other buildings; but worth it. The views from that building are great. I like the theme better than some of the other ones, but still prefer the original look. I wish that they wouldn't have changed ALL of the buildings. Me and my husband like sitting the the lobby at night after coming in from one of the parks or DD and just soak in the atmosphere. It's hoaky, but we like it. I just can't wait to see what the new carpet is going to look like.

I don't think it is hoaky, that is the best part of staying at a deluxe resort is the atmosphere!!

We also love to soak up the sounds and atmosphere of the GF lobby. Also enjoy sitting on the balcony and doing the same.
