Hi Everyone!

Does anyone know if the ginger bread house that they build at GF during the holiday season will be up 11/29 through 12/02? I'm heading down for a three days in the park then off for a four-day cruise and would like to see the ginger bread house.

Thanks!

Joy

Yup.... Was there a couple of years ago for November and they were building it around Nov. 11th or so... Date could be different... but it should be around that time... take a few days to complete...

By the way... if you want... try Germany to find the Dwarfs... My mom has a crush on Dopey (since childhood...) and we tried all over to find him. Someone mentioned asking at Germany and they called and found out when he would be out with Snow White... thus... Mom's first picture with the Dopester!!! (and now she can stop staking the poor guy...) :rotfl:

If you are planning to buy any goodies at the house, dont buy the shingles. They are terrible. Other posters agree with me.

I didn't realize you could buy any of the goodies! I won't buy the shingles!

Thanks for the warning......

And there's ALWAYS a line... stayed there in 2005 and it was lined up from 10 am to 10 pm... it's great just to go and see it. Don't forget to find all the hidden mickeys on it!!!

When we went down last year they cost $ 65 plus you had to ship them home.:goodvibes

$65??? plus shipping??

just how big was this gingerbread house???!!

the typical, usual size,or something larger?

It's Disney.

But actually the Gingerbread houses are very nice looking and well done, but I think they are of regular size. Plus it is homemade gingerbread.

Silly question..................are the houses already put together, and when they are shipped do they stay that way? I am going in december and would love to have one.............but i am concerned with paying 65.00 for a broken house when it arrives! anyone with first hand knowledge?

The $ 65 does not include shipping it back home but the gingerbread houses were larger than the normal sized ones you can put together at home. And they are really cute! I guess to ensure that you dont have a broken gingerbread house I would take the insurance out on it and also make sure they know you are shipping something extra fragile and food. :thumbsup2

We were there last year around the first of December and the gingerbread house was definitely up and crowded. The lines for the goodies was pretty long, but the house is extrodinary. Definitely a must see if you can. Enjoy!

What's wrong with the shingles? What other goodies taste better?

I've never tried the shingles - but have read alot of BAD things about them!:scared: We bought a bag of gingerbread cookies - all shapes, sizes, with choc. or vanilla icing, powdered sugar -- soft, chewy, delicious!:)

We were at the Grand last Xmas.....I bought a house and they won't ship it home.....you would have to carry it home on the plane. We decided to eat ours instead. :goodvibes

Here are a couple pictures. We always make our own houses at home from scratch and this one was about the same size. The houses are made out of a softer gingerbread than we use at home and inside walls are lined with chocolate. The chocolate is what keeps it from caving in.

I hated the shingle I bought a couple years ago, but last year I LOVED them. Maybe they changed the recipe??? I can't wait - less than a month and I will be standing in that line!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes

As many others have said, it'll be up for your trip. It's ALWAYS up by Thanksgiving, in my experience.

Here's some other pics (from various sources):

I've found the shingles to be hit or miss...but mostly miss. The other goodies are well worth the wait in line.

We've brought our gingerbread house back either in our laps on the plane, or in the back of the car when we've driven. They're REALLY cute and, IMHO, worth the $$. They look a heck of a lot better than the $20 kits we buy and put together (with an additional $20 worth of candy added to them!).
