Gettysburg Campgrounds--any recommendations?

We are taking our 5th wheel for our first "far away from home" trip. We were thinking about Gettysburg area. Its me, DH, DD13, DS10. Any campground recommendations? We would like a pool and cable. Not roughing it kind of people. What about activities in the area? Obviously, the battlefield tours are on our list....anything else? Restaurants, shopping etc..

When we went to Gettysburg a couple years ago, we stayed at Drummer Boy Campground (if I remember right). There are several in the general area close to the battlefields and NONE of them are cheap LOL. They have fairly competitive rates.

We didn't know where to eat either and stumbled on the Hoss Steakhouse and my dh loved that place. They seem to only be found in PA, but there are several of them (family owned, I think). Anyway they were reasonably priced and very good at that time.

As for shopping, while my dh went to the battlefield tours, etc. I went to an outlet mall but I was *not* impressed. Didn't want to venture too far, but my guess is, it's NOT a town that you would go to shop LOL.

We only went for my dh to go to the battlefields for about three days (he took his bicycle and toured with it). I dropped him off there each day. I am not a museum person or a historical type - he is.

As for other things in the general area - have no idea as we weren't interested. Nothing jumped out at us anyway.

Hagerstown, Md has decent outlets but they are about an hours drive from Gettysburg.

We have stayed at this campground and liked it. It came recommended by very good friends who have made several trips up there and thought this was the best one they had stayed at.

Gettysburg has its own outlet shopping. No sales tax is added to clothes in PA. Thus, why we have all the outlets. The Gettysburg outlets are right off Route 15, easy to find. Plus, lots of interesting shops in town itself.

Highwayg, there are multiple cg's in the area. Drummerboy is good so are Artillery Ridge and Granit Hill. If you have a Woodalls/GoodSam catalog they are listed. Multiple restaurant both in and out of town. Lots to do in the area, Eisenhower Farm, just over the line in Md. is Emmittburg with the Mother Seton Shrine, The National Fallen FireFighters Memorial, Thurmont, Catoctin Mtn St. Park, (Camp David is there just can't see it). It can tak take days to really cover the battle field. If u would like to email freel free to do so.

We stayed at Caledonia State Park - we found the sites to be odd - but they do have a nice pool which you pay-per-day-per-person. We wouldn't stay there again.

For a day trip if you like hiking check out McAfee Falls in Thurmont and there is a nice zoo Catoctin Wildlife Preserve is almost across the street from the fall. We enjoyed both.

The Koa was nice we went the weekend of the bike rally but it was really quiet. Also we are tent campers
