Getting to Port Canaveral on Day of Rocket Launch

We are heading out on the Fantasy next Saturday July 1st and will be driving from WDW to the port that morning for our 11:45am arrival time. As it happens, SpaceX now has a launch scheduled that morning for 11:12am. While it will be great to see it, I worry how it might impact traffic getting to the port. Has anyone experienced this and can give us some pointers? Understand that launches get delayed all the time, so might not even be an issue but trying to plan ahead. Our instinct is to drive over earlier and just find some place to park and watch then head to the port, but my guess is finding someplace to park for the launch will also be a pain, but don't really know. Only other time I was there for a launch we actually went to KSC so don't know what it's like in Port Canaveral.

Yes, I might expect there to be traffic. We were going on the Wish last January and arrived a few days early. One evening there was a launch, and it was pretty busy. Maybe plan to arrive early and have a late breakfast nearby (or at least go get coffee)?

While all launches are neat to watch and a great experience, the worst traffic is encountered for the rarer launches. The Delta Heavy, Falcon Heavy or Artemis are examples. Next Saturday is a Falcon 9 launch so I wouldn't think there will be too much traffic disruption. If bad traffic is expected, there will usually be advisories issued the day before.

We were fortunate to see SpaceX launch 2/22/2022 at debarkation from the Dream at Pt Canaveral. We watched from the top of the cruise terminal parking deck. Did not notice any significant traffic change one leaving.

This was taken from Deck 12 Midship on the Fantasy just before we departed PC last December. There was a Carnaval cruise ship docked just north of the Fantasy, which departed just before the launch providing an unobstructed view of the launch.

Launches are so frequent these days, so unless it's a special launch, traffic will not be an issue.

We sailed in April the day of a big air show with the blue angels. We left riveria early and got to the port early. We were able to drive right into the port and drop off our luggage. We had to wait for the parking lot to open. We decided we had rather wait it out at the port than be stuck in traffic. We were allowed into the terminal early, where we had to wait for our boarding group to be called.

If the timing of your cruise does not match a scheduled launch, just to the north-east of the DCL berth, is where the SpaceX ocean fleet docks. In this photo, the "ship" in the foreground (with the SpaceX logo) is the SpaceX Autonomous spaceport drone ship - named "Just Read the Instructions". For some SpaceX launches, the SpaceX Falcon rocket first stage, which is reusable, will land on this ship which will be deployed in the Atlantic Ocean.

In addition to SpaceX ships, you may be able to see a Falcon first stage. In this photo, it is laying on its side (left arrow) along with one of the fairing covers (which protects the payload during launch) just to the right (right arrow). The gray vertical tube in the photo is a crane used to unload the Falcon first stage from the drone ship.
