There's been plenty of posts, complaining about the difficulty of canceling AOL and people having their bank accounts charged after canceling their AOL service. I came home today to find in my mail a notice of a class action lawsuit against them for exactly this problem. I've been lucky so far and, after cancelling AOL, have not had further charges on my bank account (knock wood). But since so many other have, I thought I would pass this information on.
The notice reads, "If you believe you were charged by or through America Online, Inc. ("AOL") for AOL accounts, services and/or goods that you did not request or that you had previously canceled, you may be entitled to compensation under this proposed settlement." It goes on to reference a website if you would like more info: www.unauthorizedchargeslitigation.com
I hope this helps anyone who has had a problem with canceling their AOL and that you are able to get some restitution. Best of luck.
