Has anyone done their taxes yet who will be getting the "First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit"?

Someone mentioned that you need to mail "something" with your taxes in order to get the $8000 credit. What that "something" is exactly, I can't figure out.

Also, other than the 1040-EZ we will already use, do we need any other form for this credit? Is there a special form I should know about?

Nevermind. I Googled, and finally found my answer.

BUT, if anyone else is interested in the answer, here it is...

You will need an I-5405 form http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f5405.pdf... You will then claim the amount from the I-5405 on line 67 of the 1040 income tax form for 2009 returns. It also states that you WILL need to submit a copy of Attach a copy of your settlement statement showing all parties’ names and signatures, the property address, the date of purchase, and the purchase price.

We are still waiting for our return...7 months later. Keep asking for more and more paperwork...had to send in EVERYTHING...copies of driver licenses, 911 registration, bill of sale, and many more things.

We were told that they are now backed up because they had sooo many false claims and paid out on them. So now they are checking all the minor details to prove people really are buying their first home.
