We are leaving on Thursday and DD just cut her 3rd tooth. She has been a total crank and I am so worried about the flight. It's only about 2 hours but that could be a long 2 hours if she is miserable. I bought some new little toys, scotch tape and have snacks. She will also be able to watch her little DVD player. Does anyone have any other advice? TIA!

If teething is an issue, have you tried Hyland's teething tablets. There is also supposed to be something (homeopathic) in them to help calm kids down. They seemed to work pretty well for my son sometimes. Might help out on the flight. We are leaving Friday with our 2 year old and I am hoping he enjoys the new toys I picked up at the Dollar Store!

Our 2 yr old Ds screamed, cried, kicked and threw hisself around for the whole 2 hour and 10 min trip.

We had a bottle, snacks, new toys... nothing helped.

On the way back we gave him a nighttime med. and he fell asleep.
We had to. He was a huge disturbance to everyone on the plane.
We aplogised over and over and everyone was really nice and understanding.
It was his first flight. His ears bothered him. I even took ear plugs. I couldnt get them in, his ears were so tiny. I tryed several times.

Ok, Worst comes to worst. This might happen to you. Its only 2 hours. Then it will be over. They have to fall asleep sometime. There are just babies, people will be nice. Most of the people on the plane said they had been there with there kids too! They were glad he was ok.

Im sure your little one wont be this bad.

Good luck!

Definitely have the above-mentioned medications on standby. Better living through pharmacology is my motto.

Hey betsywdw All of the advice you have received so far sounds great!! But don't forget to try and be calm yourself. You know if you are stressed before getting on the plane you're little sweetie is going to pick up on it. I can't believe your trip is almost here!!! YOU ARE GOING TO DISNEY !!

Hey Smileybug! I know! I am trying to remain calm but this child has been a different person for that past 3 days! I just went today and got the teething tablets that everyone here recommends. I haven't tried them yet b/c she seems alright. I can see another tooth coming through! UGH! I will destress by Thursday, I promise!

Thanks you are such a kind friend! :goodvibes I agree, it does not get any better...well, only if my dog could come too! He's like my second child :dogdance: Although I think he will enjoy a week at my Mom's house without being picked on by the baby.

Stay calm, bring entertainment, give advil about 30 minutes before the flight and take a stainless steel spoon or a clean wash cloth in a ziploc. Why? The stainless steel spoon stays cool and it feels good on their gums when they chew on it. With the spoon and wash cloth you can ask for some ice water and dip them in to be cool on the gums and just let her chew away on them. The ziploc is to put the wet wash cloth in. Use the advil (or motrin) because it lasts longer and it is also an anit-inflammatory so it will help with the gum swelling. For this, screw the no drug thing it will make you both happier:goodvibes. My DS got not one tooth at a time, but usually 2 or 3 so he was one hurtin' pup:sad1: . If I gave him meds he was pretty good.

Remember the ears...have a bottle so she can swallow during take off and landing. I always gave my children tylenol 1/2 hour before boarding....just in case.....the scotch tape is a cute idea...I'll get some for my children (even at 2, 4, 7) they would get a kick out of having a roll to stick on paper....."I can use all of it?" They will be excited....

I always worried when my children (still do) were babies and it always went fine....all will go well. Relax...

I'm all for medicating on a flight. The advil will help her with any ear pain too. Try not worry, I know it's easier said than done. We've flown with DS when he was 5 months (he slept the whole time), when he was 18 mths old, he slept all the way there and watched his DVD's on the way home and just last month when he was 2.5. He didn't sleep much, but watched "Cars" and looked at books. But just in case, 30 min before each flight he got Tylenol with a decongestant. He's had ear infections a lot lately, but didn't complain of any ear pain. He was coming down with a cold on the way there, so the Tylenol helped with that too.

Good luck and enjoy your vacation!!

I second this. I always keep Benedryl fast melts in the bag as a backup. It will probably be fine and you won't need them, but just in case you have them. Just make sure whatever you bring they have had before, so you know what reactions they might have. The worst would be to give them something and have them become super hyper!
