Getting from Disney to Fort Lauderdale

Hello. Me and my girlfriend are doing an 8 day trip to AKL in May then taking a day to get to Fort Lauderdale before going on the Allure of the Seas for a cruise. My question is what would be the best option on getting from Disney to Fort Lauderdale: Taking DME back to MCO to get a rental car for a day or flying out of MCO to FLL? Any help would be great!

Rental car would definitely be cheaper AND faster in this case. Look at Alamo/National rental from the Car Care Center on Disney property. I believe there are also other nearby (DTD area) car rental locations.

FWIW, it's about a 3 1/2 hour drive.
