Our flight arrives in Orlando at 10:35 pm. We are renting a car from Alamo. My mother, who is traveling with us, is concerned that we will have to trek for miles across a swamp, in the dark, with all of our luggage (I never have gotten the hang of packing light... ) late at night with a small child in tow.

Any pearls of wisdom on how we might make this easier to help rest Mom's fears???

I don't know where the Alamo counter is in relation to their vehicles, or if they have a shuttle bus to take you to them, or what. Anyone???

I was just down at the Orlando Airport back in November and not sure if this helps. The rental car desks are down at the luggage claim area. We had Hertz, but Alamo is probably right there too. The rental car places have huge transportation buses right outside the doors outside of the baggage claim area. These buses take you to the rental car places which area a mile or so from the airport. We landed at 1:00am and had no problems getting on the rental car bus.

Hope that helps some.

I do believe that Alamo is one of the car rental agencies that are on site at the airport. You go down to the desk, and then the cars are in the parking garage which is easy to get to via the walkway and elevators.

I used Hertz and their cars are off site, and you are taken to them via bus when I was here on vacation, but used Alamo or Avis (one of the "A") when I came to settle on my house, and the car was right in the airport parking garage.

I was just trying to call the local number 407-855-4170 at the airport to ask for sure, but am getting no answer even though they are open 24/7.

No schlepping across swamps!!

Alamo is onsite. You will retrieve your luggage, go down a level to the rental desk, then across the road to the parking structure and follow the signs to Alamo. Not far at all.

You may want to have one adult retrieve luggage and another do the rental queue. Then the luggage retriever can meet up on the rental car level.

Not to worry - all the 'traipsing' you'll have to do is out the door of the terminal after completing your paperwork, across the street and into the garage. Alamo is on that same level, to your right. I saw somebody suggest one person rent the car and come around to pick up the rest of your party. Honestly, that'll be more difficult and time-consuming than you all walking to the car together.

There are also luggage carts that you can rent for $3 to take your stuff over to the parking garage.

Actually, my recommendation was that one adult go down and stand in the queue for the car ie do the paperwork, then wait for the luggage retrievers. Everyone walks to the car together. That way if you use a rental service which doesn't offer express rental (like Emerald Club at National) you don't have the entire family waiting for the paperwork to be done.

Anything to save a few minutes getting away from the airport!

that's ok, I do it all the time - tongue is quicker than the brain in my case

In October, my husband and I had our two kids, 1 and 3 in a double stroller, two large pieces of luggage, two Britax car seats and three carryons. I was nervouse too.

Get a luggage cart and just be patient. It'll be fine. Hectic but fine.

We just got our luggage, took the elevator down one level to Alamo, no real line, across the street. Elevator up one level and picked a car.

we went in October and used Alamo. We went with a 2 and an 8yr old, car seat, stroller and alot of luggage - I havent mastered the art of packing light lol.
It was very easy and very stress free. The 2 yr old was in a stroller which is the only way for me. We got one of those carts that you can rent and put everything on there. Went downstairs to the Alamo counter (no line at all but huge line at Disney ME) went across the street to the elevator, up a floor walked to the attendant who pointed us to the right row for the SUV we rented, had the 8 yr old pick one out and got in and left. Easy as pie.
