So, I'm not positive exactly where to put this but I figure this is probably the best place to be seen and it does have a bit to do with Disneyland (feel free to move it if need be).

In April my boyfriend and I will be visiting Disneyland for a week. I really would like to visit some of the Disney related places outside of the park but we really dont want to rent a car or have to be driving ourselves around in traffic! I am hoping to visit - Mickeys of Glendale, the Walt Disney Studios and the soda fountain, and yes we are both cast members.

Is an uber the best/most affordable way with out having to waiting hours for a bus? Are they safe? Does anyone have any other suggestions of places to go or things not to be missed on the way? Any help would be awesome!!

Uber is all over Orange County and around the DL resort area. I use them all the time and absolutely they way to go if you are familiar with them.

Mickey's of Glendale is 40 miles away and will take an hour to get there without traffic. Uber just lowered their rates, but it would still be something like $100 round trip at the lowest pricing, assuming no surge and no traffic. The best option really is to rent a car. Then you could make other stops, like Griffith Park, which is near Mickey's of Glendale.

Uber is good for relatively short hops but it's not affordable to take it all the way to LA County. If you don't want to rent a car you can catch the Amtrak/Metrolink to downtown LA and then transfer to the red line subway to North Hollywood or Universal City and then catch Uber to Disney Studios. I don't know how much that would cost but it would have to be way cheaper than taking Uber all the way from Orange County.

If you want to go up to LA you should rent a car for a day. I can't imagine trying to take public transportation or an Uber from Anaheim to LA. They're very far from each other.

also to do the more local trips you have the ART.. i believe its a dollar a day for as many trips as you want for the day.

Thanks for all of the responses guys. For those who didn't see it in the first post we are looking for ways NOT to have to drive and rent a car because the last thing we want to do is have to drive around LA on our vacation. :)

Looks like we may take Amtrak from Anaheim to Glendale and Uber from there!

hi @BattyMcDoon

I visit LA / Disneyland every year and I dont drive, so I use public transport.

I do my trip in 2 parts. I spent 4 days in LA to do Universal Studios / Hollywood touristy stuff, then I go over to Anaheim for my visit to Disneyland.

I use the local bus and metro and I use Supershuttle.

I get supershuttle from LAX to my hotel in Downtown LA. I choose my hotel 1. Budget and 2. after checking out bus and Metro routes. For example my hotel last year was one block down from the direct Metro / underground line to Universal Studios and Hollywood Boulevard.

I then use supershuttle to get to my hotel in Anaheim. I do the journey in 2 parts. Part is pickup from my hotel to LAX and part to is pick up at LAX to my hotel in Anaheim.

I have been visiting the LA area for about 6 years. Disneyland is very far away from the main LA Hollywood tourist areas. There is no way I would base at Disneyland if I wanted to see the tourist areas in LA. The drive from LAX is approx 1 hour, depending on traffic. LA is huge, its actually not 1 city but different urban counties. Disneyland is in Orange County for example.

I saw, I just wouldn't do it.

@BattyMcDoon you are welcome, I have been going to LA for a number of years now, so I am well used to getting around without a car. LA is a very car dependant city, most Californians just think you need a car and thats it, no other way possible. Im European and not having a car , its just automatic and normal for me to use public transport.

You will just need to plan your trip very very well. Most LA people dont know the bus routes in their city exist, never mind actually using a bus to get to places!

You can definitely figure out public transportation from Anaheim to Glendale but Uber is not feasible for that trip. Way too far. You will be at the mercy of bus schedules and such if you do choose public transportation. The busses are also at the mercy of traffic. You may want to reconsider renting a car the day. I understand you don't want to spend your vacation sitting in traffic but you may very well still be doing that on a bus. At least if you have a car you can determine your own schedule and try to avoid traffic. Driving in LA is really not that horrible.

That is a generalization that is completely untrue. Most people are aware of public transportation, but also that buses are run by multiple agencies that make connecting difficult at best. And train routes all go through downtown, which is not convenient to where 90% of us live and work. Not to mention the new Metro rules which punish those who use cash fares by not offering transfers or start their trip on a bus by no longer allowing the purchase of day passes. As PP said, buses are still dependent on traffic (and most trains, since some lines run at grade) and we're just sharing the reality that if it's at all possible to rent a car most people will be better off driving a more direct route, even in traffic than crisscrossing municipalities and transit authorities for hours to get from point A (Anaheim) to point B (anywhere in LA). There is no need to disparage millions of people based on where they live because you think your way is the only way.
