Getting a two bedroom for the first time

We have been members for 10+ years, but we have always gotten a studio. Are there different types of two bedrooms----can someone explain what a "lock-off" is? Thank You.

A lock off is composed of a one-bedroom and a studio, with two doors opening into the hallway. A dedicated two-bedroom will only have one door leading to the hallway from the living/kitchen room, and the bedrooms are only accessible from interior doors. Dedicated 2 bedrooms usually have 2 queens in the second bedroom rather than a queen and a couch with pullout, which is why I prefer them. In dedicated 2 bedrooms the second bedroom also does not contain a kitchenette, which means the bedroom is slightly more spacious in some cases.

BCV has a third category of 2 bedroom, since they have lock offs, dedicated with a queen and a pull out in the second bedroom, and a dedicated with 2 queens in the second bedroom category.

At Aulani, the lock off will have 2 baths while the dedicated has 2.5.

At Kidani, VGC, and BLT both the lock off and dedicated have 3 baths. All others whether dedicated or lock off have 2.

Oh, and can you reserve one type or the other specifically or is it luck of the draw when you check in?

They are booking categories, so you reserve one or the other and will get whatever you reserved.

At Beach Club Villas there are only 2 baths in both the dedicated and the lock off categories ... in fact that is true of most of the older resorts ... one of the few drawbacks to me of staying at one of the Epcot resorts since I prefer 1 and 2 bedrooms and having lotsa people so adore the extra baths.

When we book a 2 bedroom, we like a dedicated since it only has one door to the outside; vs. a lock out with 2 doors to the outside.

By default if you do ask, except at BWV where there are only lock offs, you will get the dedicated.

If you want a lock off you will need to book that specifically.

But yes availability affects everything in bookings.

We usually get a dedicated two bedroom, but had a lock off at BLT. My kids actually loved having their own fridge and kitchenette! I thought it was funny, they've requested another lock off in the future!

One more thing about Lockoffs. You can't book a two bedroom lockoff and think you can reduce the reservation to a one bedroom or a studio. You have to cancel and rebook the smaller unit.

All OKW two bedrooms have two queen beds in the second bedroom, whether they are lockoffs or dedicated. There is no patio off the second bedroom of a dedicated at OKW.
