We have been to WDW 3 times as a family, and I have an upcoming trip with just me and DD8. I am very excited about a mommy daughter trip, but I am getting a little nervous too. Keeping just the two of us safe, and having to carry all the money (not splitting it between DH and me) are my two main concerns. Any advice?

Just be aware of what's going on around you all the time. I would not tell anyone that it is just you and dd traveling. I would make sure to get a room w/ a safe and keep most of your money in there and not on your person. Perhaps you could get some traveler's checks so as not to have so much cash w/ you. Keep a cell phone w/ you all the time and get one for your dd to carry. I would stay on property as well. Just common sense stuff that I'm sure you've already thought of.

I went by myself with my then 2 and 5 year olds. I was very scared before my trip. It was also our first time flying. Everything turned out fine. I worried for nothing. I would stay onsite. Use your room key so you don't have to carry cash.

You'll be fine! The above posters gave good advice. Don't carry too much cash. Keep extra cash and valuables in your room safe. Charge things on your room key so you don't have to carry much cash. Cell phones are also a good idea in case you get separated.

I think it would be pretty easy travelling with just your DD8. She's old enough to follow instructions and stay with you. She's big enough for the major rides. Since she's a girl, you can both use the ladies room and go in together (no worrying about a boy waiting outside for you). You only have 1 other person to watch out for and worry about.

I think once you get there, you'll feel safe and have a great time!:)

You really don't need much cash. You can charge just about everything. If you are staying onsite you charge everything to your room key. If you are offsite a credit card will work. I doubt we spend $100 cash the entire week.

I went to WDW in Dec with my 6 and 3yos. It was the first trip alone, last year I met a friend and her two kids at the airport and shared a room. It went so much easier than I expected. I expected the worst and it was definitely one of my best trips ever. Like others posted, use your room key so you don't have to carry cash, and go with the flow.

I've been going to WDW with just me and DD since she was 5 and I can honestly say that I've always felt safe and had a great time. WDW is one of the easiest one-parent trips going.

You can give the hotel most of your cash when you check in, then charge things back to the room and have your deposit cover it or you can lock it in the safe and take it out as needed. I always carry a small amount of money, one low-limit credit card, and the room key to charge with. It works out well and there's nothing too stressful to lose.

As far as safety, I tend to be a worry-wart on that score, but I can honestly say I've always felt safe at WDW. I mean, you don't lay your cash out on the bench next to you or have your credit card poking out of your back pocket, but keep your eyes open and you'll be fine.

Have a wonderful trip!
