george the ghost on pirates of the caribbean

George is a fake. On my last trip this past August I mocked George repeatedly and the ride never broke down. However, I did have fun by spooking my 13 year old daughter and pulling her pony tail and blaming it on George. It scared the heck out of her. I finally told her it was me, but it was still fun.

You shouldn't have told her. lol. This is why people create rumours like this, for golden oppertunities to scare the wits out of your kids-I mean creeate magical fantasies. Yeah. Magical fantasies.:rotfl:

I will have to try this during our November trip. DH and I are paranormal investigators (explains my screen name) so we can't wait to check out all the ghost stories of WDW.

I thought I saw on snopes.com that it was true that a man named George did die while working on this ride or something like that.

I have also heard stories about "real" ghosts in the HM.

Anyone know any more stories?

I'm sure there are a lot of ghosts hanging around WDW. I know I plan to visit many, many times after death. I will be able to stay at any hotel I want, get into the parks free, visit all the best restaurants, and never have to wait in lines. Best time to visit. Maybe I should start my pre-trip report.:lmao:

I just HAD to share a story of something that happened this past weekend.

First I will preface the story with this:

1) Everytime my sister and I go on it, we repeat the mantra "George isn't real" 3 times and we've never had an actual breakdown.

2) I've been going on POTC for 15 years, have been on it HUNDREDS of times, and I can pretty much tell all of the quirks that it has.

My parents and I got on it this past Saturday. Since my sister wasn't with me, I didn't say "George isn't real." We got about 15 feet away from the drop, well before the ramp that scoots you up to the top of the falls and pushes you over. We were still in just the regular floaty water. All of a suddent the boat RAMS into something. There is nothing in front of us, no other boats are close in front or behind. The boat hit against something so hard that we were all thrown forward. And then we just sit there for about 10 seconds, all the while the water around us is just flowing normally. I was sitting on the very left side in the very front row so I had a pretty good view of what was in front of us and there was nothing. My parents and I got really wide eyed and open mouthed and we just sat there. We didn't say anything we were so shocked. And of course the people around us were on their first trip so they didn't think anything of it, but never in my 15 years at WDW have I experienced something so weird! It was spooky.

I thought I heard once that one of the boats that bring guests from TTC to MK was haunted by a captain. Anyone remember this story?

George and I are not on speaking terms. Every time I have ridden POTC it has broken down. :confused3

I had read at some point that you could sometimes "see" George or something ghost like just before the drop. I'm always looking for "him" but have never seen anything but darkness.

I don't know if George can break down POTC, but I do know that Kobe Bryant can. Once we were all set to go ride it (this was right after the reopening with the new changes) and were told by a CM at the entrance, that the ride had broken down. Turns out Kobe was getting an exclusive ride.

When was that?? We were there in Jul2006 and they had a soft opening for the ride. Well we got stuck for 20 min right were the air cannons go off. Thankfully DD who was 3 & DS who was only 10mths did not get scared. DD still remembers the ride breaking down.

This is awesome! My husband's name is George so I will be sure to say something when we go in April, and then just blame it on him! :rotfl:

Ya know - They say refurbishing a haunted location will just stir up and anger the spirits.
Anyone noticed a difference (more or less) in the "George" happenings since POTC has been refurbished?

Cool thread....:thumbsup2

OHH George George George~ my boys try every time to incur the wrath of George~ they tease, they taunt ~ nope nothing!

I swear I would give George a million little ghost dollars if just ONCE he snuck up behind them and grabbed 'em and made them pee their pants :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
smart mouth teenagers:rolleyes1

This is sooooo weird.

My first trip to WDW was 32 years ago.

My Aunt and Uncle took me and my sister.

Went on Haunted Mansion and I named my hitchhiking ghost "George"

I'm sure I picked the name randomly. But it stuck. George accompanied us for the rest of the trip - and we still talk about it today.

:goodvibes

Last year one of my DD's and I were on POTC and I quietly called out George three times in the fire room. About 5 minutes after we exited the ride my DH called me on my cell asking me if I was able to get off the ride. Apparently decided to ride with my other daughter after they got off splash and it was closed down because the ride broke down. :scared1: :scared1:
My kids all freaked out.

NO clue about POC's George, but I had 4 magical hours stuck in the Epcot ball in 82. We weren't allowed to leave, but CMs brought us all drink, and then we all had to GO, but couldn't leave, if you know what I mean. Sigh. I've hated the cistine chapel ceiling ever since.

I think I'm going to have to try this George thing on POTC when I go this summer. I will be filming so maybe I will be able to get some activity on camera. If he is real after all. I don't believe anything until I see it and I hope to see something.

I have no idea if the story has any truth to it, but I can tell you that the CMs really are required to say hello and goodnight to George during opening and closing procedures. It is in their standard opperating guidelines book! Back when I worked attractions, I got to greet outside for Pirates one day (I wasn't trained on opperatig the ride, but they needed extra people so they put me out front.), and I saw the book myself. They told me that if they did not greet George, the ride would malfunction.

Seriosuly? Well, if it's in the guidebook, it MUST be real! :lmao:

I've seriously never heard this. But I'm sure once I tell my husband, he's going to try it!
