George Clooney's new Disney movie may shoot in Orlando

Is George Clooney coming to town?

Disney's "Tomorrowland" will shoot in Central Florida this fall, several sources tell the Sentinel.

The Metro Orlando Film Commission had no comment.

Oscar-winner Clooney and Hugh Laurie ("House") are starring in the sci-fi film.

The director is Brad Bird, whose credits include "The Incredibles" and "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol." The credited writers are Bird, Jeff Jensen and Damon Lindelof ("Lost").

The filmmakers have been hush-hush about the plot, but Bird and Lindelof did show an old box marked "1952" at this year's D23 Expo, a gathering of the official Disney fan club. The movie was formerly titled "1952," and it apparently has Disney themes.

Tomorrowland, after all, is the name of a section of the Magic Kingdom. So shooting in Orlando would be logical and appropriate.

Disney isn't offering specifics. It did give this film synopsis: "Bound by a shared destiny, a teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor embark on a mission to unearth the secrets of a place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory."

Well, that tells you a lot, doesn't it?

The movie is scheduled for release in December 2014.

The film's production has been based mainly in Canada since late August, and Bird has been tweeting about the weather in Vancouver.

But the movie will shift here for several weeks, one source said.

Bird tweeted that Oscar-winner Michael Giacchino ("Up," "Lost") will compose the score for "Tomorrowland."

The cast also reportedly includes Britt Robertson ("Under the Dome"), Tim McGraw ("The Blind Side") and Judy Greer ("Two and a Half Men").

A note to people who love movies and television: You can learn a lot by reading Bird's tweets.

He wrote: "The lesson Hollywood should draw from this summer: GOOD FILMS SUCCEED. The lesson Hollywood WILL draw from this summer: ORIGINAL FILMS FAIL."

In another tweet, Bird said: "I love all the arts, but I love movies most because they combine so many of them."

I wonder why this writer thinks that WDW is logical? There is of course a Tomorrowland in Disneyland too and wouldn't that be more convenient in most cases?

I hope that the sources are right about this. I like both Clooney and Laurie so it would be really cool to catch sight of them.

Perhaps FL offers movie producers tax credits, whereas production in Hollywood is, as I read anecdotally, very expensive.

1) California is too expensive for filming.
2) The cost of labor is MAJOR.
3) Many states, including Florida, are much cheaper for labor.
4) Plus, they give tax breaks for filming.
