I know that today is the last day that you can pre-purchase WDW tickets with Genie+. Is it the same for Disneyland or will you continue to be able to pre-purchase it there?
It might follow at some point at DLR but currently you can still pre-purchase with Genie+. If it goes away, you can always buy from some of the discount brokers like Get Away Today or Undercover Tourist. They have loads of Genie+ tickets. We got ours from Get Away Today. After you purchase your package, they send the codes to enter the tickets into the Disneyland app and book your park reservations.
Genie+ isn't as sought after at DLR. It's overwhelmingly used at WDW.
You can still pre purchase for DLR. There isn't a ton of advantage to it however since you can't make your first Lightning Lane selections until you scan into the park anyway.
I pre purchased Genie+ for my trip in a few weeks. It has to be done at time of purchase and for the length of tickets. I have a 4 day 1 park ticket so I have Genie+ for all 4 days.
This is my second visit using Genie+. I didn't pre-purchase on my previous visit but bought it each morning after I scanned in.
I decided to pre purchase for my June trip for the following reasons
Its helps me with budgeting. I have paid in advance to I don't have to allow for it in my park spending money.
Even though it only takes a few minutes to buy it on the day, I found that it took me out of the Disney feeling first thing in the morning. I like walking in and just soaking up the atmosphere and sounds and sights. I found myself walking in, and not enjoying those first few moments as much as I needed to find a wall or bench and sit and buy Genie+ .
Having pre paid, it means that it will be activated as soon as I scan in and I can start using the Photopass option straight away. I missed out on the photos at the entrance with the train station in the background on my January trip.

If you have to wait in line, you may be able to buy Genie+ while waiting for the photographer, and even if you don’t have PhotoPass ready, they can give you a card that you can link to later after buying Genie+. But yeah, it’s more convenient if you pre-purchased Genie+.

On my first trip using Genie + in January, as soon as I scanned in, I went under the arches and found a bench at near guest services. I wasnt thinking about photopass, my only thought was to find the nearest bench, and sort out Genie+. Then when I was down I stood up and then just continued inwards. This was my first visit back in the parks since June 2019, so just being back and on Main Street, after all that had happened, I wasnt thinking about going back to the entrance and getting a photo.
But then later in the day when I had relaxed a bit and had got some photos, I realized my missed opportunity at the start of the day.
For those of us who dont go to the parks often first thing in the morning, being back in the parks is sensory overload and things which are obvious to regulars and locals get missed.

I've had this same feeling every time I got into a Disney park. I'm hardly ever there and there's so much to do. My wife got really angry at me on our last WDW trip as she wanted us to stop down and get a picture in front of the castle on the first day. To me that would take too long and we needed to get in line to rope drop 7 Dwarves. So I said we'd do it on our return trip later in the day. Well then it rained for 4 hours straight and my wife was livid with me.
Learned from that mistake and right after we rode some Tomorrowland rides at rope drop and ate our Jolly Holiday breakfast, I marched the kids over to the Castle to get that morning Disneyland Castle picture for my wife. Getting Genie+ really made us effort to get photos from the Photopass cast members when we could. It also gave us some great moments like DD11 and me in front of the neon for Star Traders and DD14 and me in front of Millenium Falcon at night.

Totally agree and understand. My comment was just meant to make non-regulars aware of the photo card that can be linked later. Even as a regular, I still miss opportunities as there’s alway more to learn, but I just try not to focus on what I missed but on what I got to experience.
Still, I won’t reject knowledge that makes the next trip even better.
