Apparently, he's had it for a while. His knee all of a sudden swelled up and they ran some blood tests. All the markers for Lyme Disease are positive.
I haven't told him, yet.
The problem is that he's on some really nasty medications for Psoriatic Arthritis and it looks like the antibiotic they wanted to give him will interact with the medicine he's already on. Our family doctor and the doctor treating him for the arthritis have to get together and decide what antibiotic to put him on. Then, they'll call me back. When I have more info, I'll tell Gene.
They told me that he'll have to be on antibiotics for a month and that it could take over 6 months for symptoms to disappear. That's a long time to have a sore, swollen knee.
Poor Gene.
On the upside - maybe I'll finally be able to keep up with him on vacation this time.
