Here's my problem. I live in Tennessee. Last summer my mother passed away in West Virginia. I have several relatives there, but have never really been in touch with them. I spend six days up there making funeral arrangements and such. In that time, my aunt and uncle were very supportive. They have four children; my first cousins. Anyway, one of my cousin's daughters, now 7, just attached herself to me. She was such a comfort and joy. I have stayed in touch with them throughout the year. This little girl really wants to spend a couple of weeks with me this summer.

When the subject first came up, I said we would love to have her visit. I really didn't think her parents would allow it. I had three boys and would have never dreamed of letting them go visit in another state with people I really don't know. The parents are really encouraging this trip and I just can't say no. Actually, I would love for her to spend a couple of weeks, I just don't know how she will handle it.

I am thinking about taking her to WDW for a week. I know that would make her happy and keep her from getting homesick and such. It would just be the two of us. I have always gone with my teenage DS, so taking a small children (and a girl) seems like it would be a lot of fun.

What do you guys think? Am I crazy? Any advice on how to keep her happy before we go to WDW. Or should I just say I really can't do that this summer, let's take some time for everyone to get to know each other better?

Thanks for listening.

Wow! I say take her to Disney!! You are very generous to do that. You will have a great time.

You're asking on this board if you should take a 7 year old to WDW? I wonder what everyone will say.

Take her, she'll remember it the rest of her life.

I think as long as you're up for it and her parents don't mind, go for it and have a great time:D

I would take her! What fun to see Diseny through a 7 year old girl's eyes, (I have a teenage DS too...LOL)

To keep her busy before you go how about some crafts, movie rentals, or a play at a local theatre, tea time, nature walks, library, bike riding, shopping, board games, hairdresser. They like just about anything at that age. If she gets homesick, If worst comes to worst, put her on a plane home and enjoy the rest of your vacation! It's hard to tell if a child will get homesick at any age.
