Geen Yight - She's Out of Sight: A Trip of Leaps and Bounds

Glad to hear your house renovations are coming along! We had our bathroom and living room/kitchen redone a couple of years ago. We were able to stay in our apartment while the living room & kitchen were getting renovated but when they did the bathroom we had to stay at my aunt's for a couple of days. I didn't mind because then I didn't have to travel far to go to school :thumbsup2 Traveling from the east to west side in NYC is such a pain.

Looked like you had a yummy meal at Mama Melrose! We always enjoy eating there. The only place I haven't tried yet at DHS is Hollywood Brown Derby but it's just so expensive

Glad you guys liked MM. We ate dinner there in 2009 and, while I enjoyed the food, we had the opposite problem-our portions were small. Ben got some sort of kids pasta and by the time I had my plate he had eaten the 10 noodles that were in his bowl. I ended up giving him half of my chicken parm and spaghetti. I want to give it another try but John just won't go for it again.

Maybe we'll try 50's. :confused3

We loved 50's PTC last summer when we ate there. We are going again with our family this year. It's a fun place and good food!

I can't remember who you were responding to with this...:rotfl: But my sister is going in a couple weeks (leaving April 14) and she is staying offsite with a bunch of friends, without park hoppers, so I'm not sure what they're doing each day but I can ask her. Whoever was asking, just respond on here or send me a PM and I promise I will see what she can do!
:cool1:It was me!! I'd really love the SKU for any of those princess tutu skirts, if she sees them while she's there!

I'm glad you guys were able to try Mama Melrose! I went there a few years ago during free dining and I remember the service and dessert were amazing! I would go back but it always gets bumped for Sci-Fi or 50's PT :)

Look at the size of those bowls of spaghetti! I would have needed one of these :moped: to get outta there! It sure looks yummy though!

Love Mama Melrose's! I've only been there once and I had the calamari and it was delicious! Sorry about the text :( Good luck on the kitchen tomorrow! I don't know what I would do without my kitchen! I love to cook! Your update was exactly what I needed! I've had a horrible evening.......crying and all......I just need a break and a Disney trip......and I can't afford it and my family can.....but they don't get my deep love for Disney.......and they think it's bad for me.......I just wish they would understand.........

For added authenticity, you'd have to forget if you parked that one particular car in Unicorn or Sleepy. And attempt to find it at 1 am with your forearms covered in caramel apple sticky remnants.

Well, of course...that's exactly how I was going to play it!

I did wash the dust off them to take the picture.

In reality, unless you drink from the corners, you spill all over yourself. After a couple of tries I just put them up because even drinking frrom the corners was awkward.

Now my Burger King plastic everyday cups, not in very good shape. Years of use and dishwasher abuse.

I have a littlle Yacht club going on in my bathroom. We have a glass shower stall so no curtain but I have lighthouses on my towels and a toothbrush holder on the counter.

I know people like that. Heck sometimes I can be like that.

It reminds of "All in the Family" when Edith is telling the story about the dent in the car. It was all about the "cling peaches" She took such a long time to get there and Archie was just making it worse. Yup, I can get off topic like that when I let mind wander.

It can be fun to watch.

YES WE DO !!!!!

I hope it doesn't come to that. I hope it all gets done and you have time to put it all back together.

Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts.

I am excited to see which one it is too.

Yes I did!!!!

I need your dusting talents at my house this week. Every inch of this house needs to be dusted before Saturday. Let me know when you're coming, and I'll leave a key under the mat, in case I'm not here. :)

A Yacht Club bathroom sounds very nice. Maybe next time you are in WDW, you could get a Yacht Club picture to make it official.

You would do a lot of laughing around Kay. It's not safe to drink when she's talking, lest you spray things around you that you might not want sprayed.

I am really hoping to come home today to some action happening in my kitchen. ::yes::

Yummm, Mama Melrose's looks sooo yummy! We're eating there for the 2nd time in June...I can't wait

Glad to hear the house renovations are coming along well!!

I think we picked just the right time to go there. It was a good fit for that day and for the group we had.

The painting is done, and after today, I am hoping Part II - the stove and dryer - will be done.

Sure enjoyed the ToT ride with you. And Bella was so cute in her video! We've never tried Mama Melrose's. Was it worth the price? Having fun with all the shopping and I especially loved the black Mickey purse on page 28.

Hope you're going to show pictures of all your house updates.

It was a little much for spaghetti, considering spaghetti is cheap, but for being in Disney World and it being very good, it was fine. We will do it again sometime when we have the guys with us.

It looks like you had a wonderful meal at Mama Melrose! My family had dinner there once, I think back in 2006 and we all enjoyed it. It certainly looks like they were not skimpy with portions! It looks like you got enough spaghetti in one order to feed the whole table!

Glad to hear that your kitchen renovations are nearing completion. My parents just went through something similar. They recently redid their kitchen for the first time. It still had the original Formica counter tops that were installed when the house was built in the 60's! I joked with my mom that she was going to have to get a permit, because those counter tops must have earned protected status under the endangered species act! I think they were the last of their kind!

My family has a very similar affliction- too many Disney trips and not enough left over money for the kitchen. My mom always reasoned that if you spent enough time on vacation, you wouldn't be home to notice how old and dingy everything was anyway!

I have dinosaur cabinets and countertops. Everything in this house is pretty much dinosaur. I will have to do the modernizing one small step at a time. :thumbsup2 My fear is that my new floor and stove are just going to accent how terrible the rest of it is.

I am finally here and caught up!

Wonderful report so far. I am really enjoying all the little videos. Joe teased me today saying we could possibly swing a trip for Memorial Day; however flights are around $350 each. So, I'm thinking I'll have to live through your videos!

How is your Aunt Joan?

I look forward to seeing your renovation work! Did you decide on the AKL or YC theme? (sorry if you already mentioned this, I skimmed most of the chatter)

Glad you enjoyed Mama Melrose! We debated on adding it again for this past trip, but it didn't make the list. It will be repeated someday, yum!

We can't expect you to be on time when you are out galavanting around Disney World for two weeks. ;)

Flights just add a big chunk to a trip, don't they. I'm for an insta-transporter, myself. Somebody smarter than me needs to invent one of those!

Joan is slowly getting better. I'm supposed to be fixing food for her and Ray this weekend, but I'm going to wait another week or so to visit. Dawn talks like she's pretty tired and weak most of the time.

It's AKL all the way. Jill liked it better when I sent her a phone picture, and Trent picked up a picture from Ziwadi for me last weekend. I'll put it all together Saturday morning and take a picture.

Glad your kitchen renovations are going to be underway really, really soon! Our stove is pretty icky and my grandmother has been dying to get us a new one. The oven, too, doesn't work the way it should. I love baking but always put off doing so b/c it's so hard with the oven being the way it is! We have to subtract at least 50 degrees from what it says to bake things at, yet it's cooler in some areas. It's very strange.

I can't remember who you were responding to with this... But my sister is going in a couple weeks (leaving April 14) and she is staying offsite with a bunch of friends, without park hoppers, so I'm not sure what they're doing each day but I can ask her. Whoever was asking, just respond on here or send me a PM and I promise I will see what she can do!

The oven itself is really good. It bakes very nicely. The burners are cruddy, and two have gone on the blink. I am excited about not having to clean burner pans again.

It would be great if your sister could send you that information on the skirts, if she happens to see them.

Mmmm.... Spaghetti....

Could be one of the first meals my new stove sees. :goodvibes

I must say... this had me puzzled for a moment. I just kept looking at it and thinking... I have no idea where this vehicle is used in the park??? I thought I had been on every form of Disney transportation, but NO! I finally noticed the writing on the package and realized that I didn't know what it was b/c we have never driven to the parks! I have never seen a Disney parking lot or tram!

Glad you liked MM. I'd like to try some place new at HS next time (even though I liked MM) but there aren't that many choices. I'm not willing to spend the $ for HBD. Maybe we'll try 50's. The spaghetti looked good though. You can't go wrong with that. A favorite for the kids and adults!

We don't use a tram, either, but we did before when we drove up from St. Pete. I think the Matchbox version of that scene has to be better than the real thing. We've had a couple of car hunting times in our days, too. ;)

I want to go to Brown Derby, but I think that will be on a girl trip. I don't think our guys would care a lot for that restaurant, to be honest. Jill and I want to try them all.

Great!! Just send me a PM or a FB message with your address when you have a chance and I'll get it out to you.

If she doesn't get with you in the next day or so, let me know. She doesn't get time to check in every day, so I'll let her know.

I am ready for the house to be back in order. I wouldn't like a 2-3 month renovation!

I have to get to Brown Derby someday to get the Cobb Salad and Grapefruit Cake. I wouldn't be a real DISer if I didn't do that at least once.

We loved 50's PTC last summer when we ate there. We are going again with our family this year. It's a fun place and good food!

We had enough for 3-4 more people.

We've been to PT a few times. We still have to get to Brown Derby, and then we'll have all the Hollywood restaurants covered.

It was me!! I'd really love the SKU for any of those princess tutu skirts, if she sees them while she's there!

Now that I've seen the Minnie skirt on Abby, I want it for the girls even more. It's very cute. Maybe Kailyn can get the information for you.

I'm glad you guys were able to try Mama Melrose! I went there a few years ago during free dining and I remember the service and dessert were amazing! I would go back but it always gets bumped for Sci-Fi or 50's PT

We like to try at least one new place on each trip, but it is easy to want to go back to the old favorites.

Look at the size of those bowls of spaghetti! I would have needed one of these :moped: to get outta there! It sure looks yummy though!

It was very good - not your ordinary spaghetti.

Love Mama Melrose's! I've only been there once and I had the calamari and it was delicious! Sorry about the text Good luck on the kitchen tomorrow! I don't know what I would do without my kitchen! Make yourself a little magic at home. Watch a Disney movie, go to a restaurant that reminds you of WDW, make a Disney dessert, make a Disney Store trip or a zoo trip and pretend you're in Animal Kingdom. Pretend it until you can get there, and be saving those pennies for a real trip.

We understand the very strong desire to get back to the real thing. We really do. :wizard:

Cute little Disney tram to play with at home.

IMG_0815.jpg

You could line up thousands of Matchbox cars and play parking lot. ;)

We probably can help stock that parking lot! Hot Wheels are a popular birthday gift for little boys when someone doesn't know what to get (also easter baskets and stocking stuffers)

:lmao: For added authenticity, you'd have to forget if you parked that one particular car in Unicorn or Sleepy. And attempt to find it at 1 am with your forearms covered in caramel apple sticky remnants.

:rotfl2:

So glad you liked Mama Melrose! It is on our list for this summer trip and I was wondering about it.

Love the Kermit ears! I had not seen those before. Where is the muppet shop? We saw that show three times last summer (a new favorites of Jeremy) but for the life of me I don't remember the store? :confused3 It could have been that I was hurrying him through it!!!

We may have to bring one of those Disney trams home! Those are too cute.

Morning!

Happy new stove and dryer day! :)

I'm sure your guy will get your floors done.
Probably a good idea to take Friday off. ;)

I'm curious as to which print Trent got for you....maybe someday you can have both.

I was very close to buying the Poly print last time, I now wish I did.

It is our ADR Day!
I got everything I wanted!
Chef Mickey's, Whispering Canyon (new for us), Kona, 'OHana, Sci-Fi, Garden Grill(new for us), Crystal Palace bkfst!!!
I'm looking forward to walking past the crowd and seeing an empty Main St. for the first time. :yay:

I also made an ADR at TRex for the day before the cruise...as a surprize for Lexi.
I laugh because we all know I am aweful with keeping surprizes.

:cool1:It was me!! I'd really love the SKU for any of those princess tutu skirts, if she sees them while she's there!

Now that I've seen the Minnie skirt on Abby, I want it for the girls even more. It's very cute. Maybe Kailyn can get the information for you.

I'll definitely ask Kailyn to get the information for both the skirts if she sees them ;) And I will share it on here! I've already made sure that she will be sending me pictures and updates so I'll be sure to get that from her, and hopefully throw in some pictures for all of our Disney fixes

All caught up! I had carpal tunnel surgery Thursday but I'm slowly working my way back to normal.
As much as I have always loved the Little Mermaid movie I have never seen the show at Hollywood Studios! Must make a not for my next trip! I've been thinking about trying Mama Melrose on our trip also!
I have those McDonalds glasses! They are in my curio cabinet for safe keeping!

So glad you liked Mama Melrose's; we're going there for the first time on the next trip and I didn't know if we'd like it. Lots of food means we'll like it:rotfl2:!

:thanks:

I need your dusting talents at my house this week. Every inch of this house needs to be dusted before Saturday. Let me know when you're coming, and I'll leave a key under the mat, in case I'm not here. :)

A Yacht Club bathroom sounds very nice. Maybe next time you are in WDW, you could get a Yacht Club picture to make it official.

You would do a lot of laughing around Kay. It's not safe to drink when she's talking, lest you spray things around you that you might not want sprayed.

I am really hoping to come home today to some action happening in my kitchen. ::yes::

My dusting talents consisted of running water over it. :lmao: Normally the dust makes my allergies go haywire so we have a deal, I don't bother it and it doesn't bother me. ;) I do like those swiffer dusters so it does not fly everywhere but it seems to come back, the dust that is. I want to clean and have it stay clean, this getting dirty again or dusty again is for the birds.

I will consider my self warned around Kay. :lmao:

I hope there is some action at your house today!!!!

I've never been in Mama Melrose's but it sure looked delish and fillling! :cool1: Love that tram. I bought the monorail one year...it was super neat! :thumbsup2 I am already Disney dreaming for 2012!! Maybe Easter Break???? I think Easter falls on April 8th. I know you are going Dec 2011. Any ideas for after that?:confused3

We probably can help stock that parking lot! Hot Wheels are a popular birthday gift for little boys when someone doesn't know what to get (also easter baskets and stocking stuffers)

I had two boys and babysat many, many, many on weekends, so we had hundreds of Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars all over this house. Drew especially loved his 'car cars'. They had several different tracks throughout the years, but they really loved the Little Tikes Garage and an orange Hot Wheels one. Santa filled many a stocking with little cars. :)

So glad you liked Mama Melrose! It is on our list for this summer trip and I was wondering about it.

We liked the spaghetti, so I am glad we went ahead and tried it.

You probably have walked by the shop. It's back there near the show and Mama Melrose's place.

We'll go with Happy Stove is Hanging Halfway Out into the Room Day. ;) That's a start. Tomorrow, I think it comes all the way out and gets replaced. Fingers crossed.

I do have a few rows of flooring, though. I'll show you a picture.

I like all the prints of all the resorts. I looked at the CBR ones when we ate there this trip. They are all nice reminders of fun and relaxing vacation times.

You have great ADR's! :thumbsup2
Trent loves Whispering Canyon. We're trying Garden Grill for the first time this summer. Crystal Palace breakfast was good, but I hope you have better luck with characters than we do when we go there.

Keep your T-Rex surprise. Whenever you feel like talking about dinosaurs, come here and talk to us.

I'll definitely ask Kailyn to get the information for both the skirts if she sees them And I will share it on here! I've already made sure that she will be sending me pictures and updates so I'll be sure to get that from her, and hopefully throw in some pictures for all of our Disney fixes

I hope that helps. Is it really painful at first?

You should see the Little Mermaid show. Some singers are better than others, but the show is cute and not too long at all.

So glad you liked Mama Melrose's; we're going there for the first time on the next trip and I didn't know if we'd like it. Lots of food means we'll like it!

I challenge you to eat a whole bowl of spaghetti. It was a mountain! :upsidedow No hiding noodles under your napkin, either. :rolleyes1

My dusting talents consisted of running water over it. Normally the dust makes my allergies go haywire so we have a deal, I don't bother it and it doesn't bother me. I hope there is some action at your house today!!!!

Dusting was always my least favorite chore. That was Jill's job, and she liked it. I always liked washing dishes. Hosing down the place might be an idea. That darn dust does just keep coming back! It's annoying!

There was some action. I missed it, though. He was gone before I got home, because I left school late and ran errands.

I've never been in Mama Melrose's but it sure looked delish and fillling! Love that tram. I bought the monorail one year...it was super neat! I am already Disney dreaming for 2012!! Maybe Easter Break???? I think Easter falls on April 8th. I know you are going Dec 2011. Any ideas for after that?

They haven't finalized our school calendar for next year. They got all in a panic after the snow days this year, so they're revising it every two days. They have a draft that should be approved soon. I believe our spring break will be in April next year, so that could be a possibility. We'll have to see if Jill can get off and if Jill and John want to do something different, etc. I could always snag Brook and do our special trip. I don't think missing a few days of kindergarten would be an issue.

***************************************

So, we did have some progress today. Here is the before and after of my floor.

On the left is my forty year old linoleum, which is curling at the edges, and on the right is the new stuff he's putting over it.

MarchApril2011026.jpg

Here's the shower curtain I found that reminded me of AKL.

MarchApril2011029.jpg

The brown looks pink in that picture, but it's not.

I got hooks at Kohl's - on sale, no doubt - that I thought would look good with them. What do you think?

MarchApril2011028.jpg

When it's all finished, I'll try to get a better picture, and maybe the colors will show up better. It looks better in person than it does in those pictures. If you have a Walmart, you can see it for yourself.

Here are some dresses I got the girls, since I made the mistake of wandering into the girls' section at Kohl's.

MarchApril2011030.jpg

That's my new loveseat to replace the old futon in the sitting area of the kitchen.

Anyway, that's all for this evening. I accomplished a little bit today, but I still have a long way to go. Most of it can't be done until the floor is finished.

Looks like a great start. :woohoo:

I hope things get a big push tomorrow and you are able to get everything back without taking Friday off to do that. You want to save your day taking for Disney.:upsidedow

I also made an ADR at TRex for the day before the cruise...as a surprize for Lexi.
I laugh because we all know I am aweful with keeping surprizes. [/COLOR]

Congrats on the good grabs on your ADR wish list! Makes me hungry to read your list. It's been a few weeks since our ADR day, and I've kept the whole trip secret from our princess so far. I laugh at myself, too, though. I'm notoriously awful about keeping Disney secrets. We say we'll just scoot her off to the airport as a total surprise. But then I inevitably weaken, because I'm bursting with excitement & I want her to share the fun of anticipation & planning. :dance3: The closest I've gotten to a surprise departure is 10 weeks' notice! I hope to shave at least a few weeks off this time, but maybe still keep the ADRs secret.

Oh yum, yum, yum! This update had me drooling! You know I love MM! And I loved the pic you sent me while you guys were eating there. Did you ever look for the hidden Mickey on the dog statue in the lobby?

I love the shower curtain! It is definitely AK/AKL feeling!

We also love eating at Mama Melrose's. They have good Sangria.:thumbsup2

Your new flooring looks a lot like ours in our kitchen. We also had curling linoleum that they just covered over. We had our floor done last spring. I love it. Very easy to clean. You beat me to a new stove though. I cannot wait to get a flat top. We still have to pay off the new fridge first. We got zero percent interest at Lowe's so I will be done with that payment in May. We are updating little by little also.

Those dresses you bought the girls are adorable & they will look adorable in them.

Love your shower curtain & hooks. They look great together.:thumbsup2
