Geen Yight - She's Out of Sight: A Trip of Leaps and Bounds

Congratulations again! You're a real grown-up now. :goodvibes

You'll be a very caring babysitter. Your family is fortunate to have you close.

Thank you :goodvibes

I didn't end up babysitting on saturday. Jeremy and Leslie just decided to stay home and relax after the cookout. But I did babysit this morning :) Caleb just left about a half hour ago. They had to do some errands and go to the DMV, and sitting there waiting for 2 hours would not be fun with a 2 year old  Don't tell Kazin I said this, but Caleb was a lot easier to watch. He's not as hyper as Kazin and he pretty much entertained himself. I found some plastic dinosaurs and a toy car when I was cleaning the other day and he played with those. I gave him some crayons and tried to get him to color, but he decided that it was more fun to watch me draw  He kept putting crayons in my hand and saying "Draw firetruck" :rotfl:

In the past few days, I have also learned that the Director of Schools wants to start on July 25th next year.

:scared1: When do you usually start? My town starts on August 29th this year. It used to always be after labor day, but the past 4 years we've started in August. My college starts August 29th too.

Yay for Soarin'! I'm glad that you got to be able to ride. I also loved the Pin pictures! I have the first flower and garden one, and I got it through trading with a CM. I didn't realize that it was a limited edition when I traded for it, I just thought it was pretty. It was probably my best trade of the whole vacation! :goodvibes

The flower and garden photos are lovely! I just adore those flower beds around the lagoon. They were very pretty this year, but my favorite was the year that they did a nautical flag theme. It supposedly spelled out a message, but I never managed to figure it out, I just appreciated all the pretty flowers.

There's a name for school in July. It's called SUMMER SCHOOL!

We don't start here until after Labor Day. They actually passed a law and you have to go through some process to be allowed to start any earlier. It stems back to farmers needing the help and now it's evolved to tourism (lake resorts etc) and the state fair which runs through Labor Day.

I like it, because here we don't have a/c in our schools but it can get pretty dang hot in August and even into September. May and early June - not so much. So this year my kids were in school on September 7 - June 9.

I hope they don't make you go back THAT early!!

How neat would it be to be in Epcot this beautiful Father's Day?

Just catching up...I would love to be there right now!!! Lucky you will be there very shortly!!   Hope you don't mind but I "stole" this picture and now have it as my wallpaper on my work computer. I just love Epcot! :lovestruc :lovestruc

Yuck on July 25th. *thumbs down* I just read this article in our local paper today:

They just slipped that right in there because this is the first I've heard about it.

Hey MeMom! Hey Sheree!

Our school system goes from the day after Labour Day until close to the end of June. This year the kid's aren't done until June 29th!! :scared1:

Southern Ontario temps sound pretty similar to MN...it's still hot for the first three weeks in Sept (usually) and towards the end of June and we haven't got aircon in our schools either so maybe that's why we have a similar start date. I don't think it's a law thing though.

I don't get why we get out so late though... :confused3

I am just loving the pics of Flower and Garden Epcot. Our 2009 and 2010 trips were both during F&G and we were really missing the topiaries and play areas on our Jan trip this year.

Thanks for sharing...we didn't photo document the amazingness properly either time so your shots are really bringing me back! :thumbsup2

I've seen that last picture from F&GF many times and it still always makes me say "WOW"! It's just beautiful. I can only imagine how awesome it is in person. Very cute pins too!

I LOVE those pins, especially that first one!

That last picture is beautiful. It's crazy to think how much work and preparation goes into all of that.

I love the pictures of the pins. The farmer Mickey and Minnie is so cute. That might become my next collection of souvenirs. I have been getting a magnet each trip, but my refrigerator is about filled to capacity.

It was great that you able to see Jiminy Cricket. In all my trips I have only ran across him one time at AK.

We are awaiting a house bill to pass to determine if PA will also not be allowed to start before Labor day. We always begin the third week with the kids starting the last week of Aug. We aren't allowed to go past June 30th by law. Currently, we are out around the 13th even with snow days.

Someone proposed an extended winter break to save on heating---Dec 16th through Jan 2... I really don't want to be there all of June instead!

I am hoping the proposal of July 25th is shot down for you. Would you have extended breaks then?

I love the update. I am sooo anxious to get back and seeing the land pavillion makes me even more so!

Memom...just wanted to come on and brag about Caleb! He went in the potty twice yesterday! And he was the one who suggested he sit on the potty. His reward when he went potty...was to flush the toliet! HAHA...he wanted to do it so bad but I told him he had to wait until he went potty...and he did! hopefully soon he can wear his new Mickey mouse and thomas the train underwear that Grandma got him!

Congrats! W are working on #2 in the potty over here:)

Love the pictures of the Flower and Garden Festival pins! I love going during special times of year just for that purpose of getting things that aren't there all the time.

The boys did well with swim lessons. They are not as advanced as Brooklyn in their comfort with water. Cooper actually will scream hysterically if you try to carry him into water over his head. So, yesterday, when he put his head under the bathwater by himself, I was floored! The swim class he goes to is run by a military type guy and he has a "just go with it" attitude. He does not baby the children which is hard to watch, but best for them. So, needless to say, my husband takes them. I am really okay with Cooper, but Blake is so little that he really does not understand it all yet. If they learn to swim some and get over their fear of water, it will be worth it.
Have a great day everyone!!

A firm but gentle approach works for me. I listen and try to figure out the "why" and work with that. I reassure that they are safe and will continue to be safe.

I hope all our Diskids learn to swim and use it for recreation and lifelong fitness.:goodvibes

I saw that today- It says they are taking the workdays so do it but don't make us make up days- use them as snow days.

Jillyb this crazy storm is coming your way. Another fast moving and horrible sounding one. :scared1:

We are awaiting a house bill to pass to determine if PA will also not be allowed to start before Labor day. !

We used to vacation in Pa and since we always started school after Labor day I was the only kid around since we vacationed the week after Labor day.

You guys don't have air conditioning in your schools?! :scared1:We do up here in London! I'm gonna feel bad for those kids tomorrow when it's supposed to feel like 35!
School does seem to go really long this year though! Don't you remember going back to school at the beginning of September and wanting to wear new sweaters and stuff and sweating like a wild woman?:rotfl: Usually you're not really ready for them until the end of October or so!

:scared1::scared1: that is sooooo early.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I have been to those trainings.

You would be starting on my birthday and that is just way too early.
Instead of snow days they will be sending kids home on account of heat.
I bet the tourism industy will do what they can to stop it. That is what they did arounf here. By state law we cannot start school before Aug 25th and must end by June 10th.
Tourism industry claims that too many families not vacationing in Aug will be bad for the economy as will having no teenagers to work because they are in school
.

July 25th is too early, unless you are in year round school.

I agree Pat, since we are in the same state! When I was in elementary school(way back when!!! LOL!!!) school used to start after Labor Day so people could help out on the farms, but then they started backing the dates up. Of course around here they don't want to cut into tourism at the beach!!
Pat and JillyB, hope the storms don't get too bad!!! Send some rain my way!! It's cetainly been HOT here this week!! 101 yesterday!!!!
