We had the same problem with our GE washer (model WNSE6280B1WW) last week, and it is only 2.5 years old! The motor would make all the noises that the washer was spinning but the tub wouldn't budge! The GE repairman said that there was a 2-stage (speed?) motor and one half of it was shot. Of course, it wasn't on warrantee! He replaced the motor with a much heavier-duty one and it works fine, but it cost us $262! :scared1: DH said that was his outer limit of repair cost and, any more, and the washer would be history!

GE reduced the price of the motor from $198.65 to $95! It wouldn't surprise me if there was a known problem with this particular motor and GE is fixing it at a reduced cost when problems arise. Next repair and the washer is history!

I made the above comment on another thread in May last year. The washer broke again last Wednesday - same problem! When I called GE service to see about any guarantee on the repair they said the part was covered for 5 years but we would have to pay for a service call and labor. DH said to have the guy come and look at it for the $49 service call charge. We scheduled the
call for this morning between 8 and 12.

At 10:30 GE called to tell us they were overbooked and the repairman could not make it today  They could make it either Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. Laundromat anyone?

This is after the main oven control on my GE stove went last year after 6 years to the tune of $250. We bought GE again because we had had excellent luck with the ones we had had for 30+ years. The refrigerator, washer, and dryer (painted for fresh color) were left for the new owners when we sold the house. The stove still worked but was replaced because it was Harvest Gold (yup, bought in 1971). The quality and service has gone straight into the dumpster.

Think I'll go look at new washers (NOT GE) this afternoon.
