GDT Club or YC CL

Considering options for fall 2022. Our adult boys are joining us on a cruise, and we want to spend 6 days at WDW prior and 3/4 days at universal after. Originally considered Yacht Club Club level (hopefully reopened by then!) 2 rooms / boys in their own room, us in ours. However to save some money I’m wondering if trying GDT club level is worth considering? This trip is already very pricey with Canadian exchange and anywhere I can save would be helpful. I don’t want to be disappointed in the change though if YC is the better option. Thoughts? Is GDT a good compromise to consider?

Well from a purely CL perspective, in my opinion GDT CL is a ‘better’ CL than YC (and I’m a fan of YC CL). It’s new, amazingly beautiful, a nice large lounge, etc. Pre-COVID, GDT had excellent offerings and a variety of lounge amenities that were frankly probably #1 among the various CLs (my opinion). Assuming they pick up where they left off, it’s a really good CL experience, in my opinion.

But obviously there are big locational differences between YC and GDT. While I don’t mind the bus only access from GDT and I really like its overall central location, for a 6 day trip which I’m assuming will involve at least a couple of trips to Epcot or DHS, it’s really hard to beat the walkable access from YC. It really shifts the planning/approach to a trip when you’re within walking distance to a park(s). The whole Epcot resort area is arguably going to be more “fun” for adults than GDT and more options for dining, if that matters at all for you.

I tend to usually say go with your park plan and pick the location that best suits where you’ll want to spend the most time. Ultimately I would have no qualms about either, and I think GDT CL is typically a great value relatively speaking to other resorts,

Probably not much help since I didn’t really pick a side there. :-) Hope it helps, good luck with your planning.

I've never stayed at the GDT, but I have at the YC and love the resort. For me it's about location. You just cannot beat the location of the YC. In 2019 we did WDW for 4 nights before our cruise at the BWI (YC CL was booked). It was so easy to just walk to HS or Epcot and not rely on any transportation or wait for it. That and if your going to do any dining, there are some great options along the Boardwalk and Epcot (yes I left out HS for dining).I myself think it's worth paying extra for the YC, but ultimately as you know, it comes down to how you think.

I just booked a Disney cruise in February 2022 on the Fantasy and also booked 6 nights at WDW at the Poly, pre cruise. The Poly has been on our bucket list for years. Hopefully I didn't make a mistake with this choice. I just love the Boardwalk area for it's convenience and dining options. Good luck and hope you have a great time.

Thank you both for your thoughtful replies, I really appreciate them. I agree with you both on location, you can't beat YC location for walking to the parks. And dining.... I didn't even consider that! We love a lot of EPCOT area dining and Yachtmans is our favourite restaurant. Now I am rethinking this and think maybe it's best to do YC..... and hope CL is open by then. Or....instead of CL this time, maybe get a better dining plan.
You definitely have me thinking again!
