We booked a suite at the GCH for a very special birthday trip coming up. When I booked it, I asked if it included concierge. I was told no, that you can only request it the day of check in. The CM explained that you can book a regular room that is club level, which costs less than a suite, and get concierge, but that you can't book concierge with a suite ahead of time....only day of check in. Then, it would cost about 225.00 more a night. So help me understand this....a non-suite club level room that already costs less, includes concierge, and a suite that costs more doesn't come with concierge and they are going to charge 225.00 more a night upon checkin if they have capacity to add more to concierge??
Is that correct?? It doesn't make sense to me....
I was hoping to add that little extra magic to our visit because of the nature of the trip, but they burst my bubble with this policy.

Suites are spendy, club level is also spendy, so club level + suite = super spendy. Yes, you will be expected to pay for access to the club level (free drinks, food, etc.). Are you looking for help in booking ADRs or access to club areas? If it is the former, there is always someone there to help in the lobby.

Suites and club/concierge level are two different things, with two different prices. If you want club/concierge level, I recommend you book that instead. You will have your room + the club level area to hang out in. I didn't even know it was something that you could add on. Interesting.

Enjoy your birthday!

We stayed in the Arcadia Suite and had Concierge Level privledges so not sure if the policy changed this year??

We are in a 2 bedroom suite, not one of the signature ones, so maybe that is the difference. It just surprises me that a less expensive non-suite room can be guaranteed concierge but a suite can't be. It is all dependent upon availability at check in.

It does sound like an odd policy! You could book 2 concierge rooms but you can't book a suite with concierge privileges. I guess they want to guarantee that the lounge isn't too crowded. Maybe they also want to ensure that they don't cater to those who book suites at the expense of those who just want a concierge room; there is a limit as to how many they can accommodate and if they have to sacrifice concierge rooms for people booking suites and wanting concierge, that might not go over well with guests, but I don't know.

ETA: my personal rule of thumb, however, is that if I don't get the answer I want with the first call, give it at least 2 more tries. You will often get different information from different CMs, and that's not just my rule for Disney but across the board.

Realistically, $225 add on is lower than it is for a standard room with the add on. Example: on a date I picked at random (May 11), the standard room was $435. Same room with Concierge is $746. The difference is $311.

It make sense that GCH give priority to dedicated Concierge rooms over suites: 2 concierge rooms collect $622 extra, while a 2 bedroom suite only adds $225.

How often is it that you request concierge with a suite but can't get it at check in because it's sold out? We requested it two years ago on our 2 bedroom suite and got it, but I wondered on a busy time like !
Memorial Day, if it gets "sold out"??

What is the price difference between a 2 bedroom suite and 2 separate standard rooms ?

You pay for concierge by the room. Two rooms means two charges of $225/night/room, so $450/night. A 2 bedroom suite counts as one "room" for purposes of concierge, so $225/night total. So a suite saves money there. As well, the concierge rooms that you can reserve seem to actually cost more than that when you look at the price difference when booking a CL room versus a regular room of same view. Since you can't officially book a concierge suite, you have to wait until you get there, and see if you can add it at check in. But it is a flat fee of $225/night. I just wonder if they "run out" of CL options to add on at busy times?

Sorry I don't know if DVC can add CL.
