I've got to say, I'm pretty jaded when it comes to hotel amenities, but on a recent trip to Disney in April, the only hotel I was able to book was the Gaylord Palms Resort. I was kind of put off by the fact that I've never heard of the chains, or seen what they were like. And from the information on their website, it kind of made the hotel seem a bit "campy" and over the top.
I have to say, that is totally opposite what the hotel is like.
My first impression when I walked into the lobby for check-in was total awe. The lobby was grand, with a waterfall cliff behind. The next morning, we wandered around the hotel, and found they had 5 different themed areas, Key West, Everglades, St. Augustine, etc. and they were all wonderful to see, and experience, the food was wonderful at the coffee bar in the morning, if the wait weren't so long though.
Over all, the pools, food, and rooms were great and I highly recommend it, for those, and also because of it's close proximity to Disney, which is just right up the road.

I know what you mean. We first stayed at a Gaylord hotel in Nashville. It was unbeleivable. I would love to see Disney build something similar.

My girlfriend and I live in Tampa, and go to Orlando often for weekend getaways. Over the past few years, we've stayed at probably 30 hotels in Orlando, and Gaylord Palms is BY FAR the best.

Onsite Disney / Universal, ChampionsGate, none of them compare!

This sounds interesting....there is a convention there in March that I may go to. Does anyone know how far to WDW this is?

It's literally 5 minutes away from Disney, on the upper floor of the hotel, you can see the "Welcome To Disney" sign from the front. If I can remember, you make a left out of the hotel, and go to the 2nd or 3rd red light, and turn right, and you're right there.

I was at a convention there in June, really great facility. I actually stayed on Disney property (I'm a DVC owner) and drove there each day 10 mins with traffic at the most. I was kinda jealous that my friends at the conference were staying at the Gaylord, and you know it's gotta be special if a Dis'er
wants to go to Orlando and stay off property.

The hotel restaraunts were great and they have a Canyon Ranch Spa in the lower level for some pampering if thats your thing.

Enjoy!

They're both gorgeous. I just got back from the one in Nashville (there for a conference) and liked it so much that I'm going back for their Country Christmas.

I was at the one in Orlando two years ago to see ICE! (one of their Christmas shows) and was very impressed.
