Gave MIL an early Christmas gifts...UPDATE: We have a name!

I'm quite partial to Beau - our yellow lab, he's a bird dog, his name is Beau. :) But I had immediately thought Boon before I had even read your list!

Anything but Duke! How about Tarheel?

I like Beau.

I also thought of Rhett.

Beau
Duke
Jr ( from the same line of thinking as a PP's Ernie)

First, congratulations on adopting from Petfinder! Lovely way to help your mom and you knew she wanted a doglet so it was not an unexpected surprise. I volunteer with rescue and I am tickled pink when a good family adopts. :grouphug:

As for names - for that breed I really like Beau too. Sounds so fitting...but of course do not know the pup...hmm, but Beau would fit a young'un or a later when he's a senior, very active or a cuddle bug. Course, I'd likely wind up calling him BoBo as a nickname. :confused3

Happy Christmas to all - and do keep us posted - pics please!!

When we took CoCo in for rabies shots, there was a couple with two cats and one dog, the dog they called Tater. It wasn't his given name though, I don't know why. I always thought if we get another dog (long long time from now), Tater seemed to be a good name. Unique and fun.

I grew up with a black lab called Gunther, a dachsund named Cleopatra. My cousins had a husky mix called Sam and another set had a basset hound called Blue. We've had a cat, Peanut, three hamsters, Spiderman, Hammy and Noodle. Various fish, mostly called Fishy.

Going to buy her a large bag of rawhides for him? :)

I think we need to start a thread of cool, creative pet names. :cool1: :lmao: I'm usually so unimaginative...

DH once had a cat who ADORED chicken - they named him Wishbone (or Wishy). Also knew a doberman named Raisin (Raisin Rumpus was his registered name), and love the name of a marble bengal cat stud named Fudge Ripple (Rip for short).

We named three of our dogs southern names-Scarlet, Melanie, and Opie.

How about Rhett?

Beau was the first thing I thought of too, when I read Southern and didn't see it on your list. I also like Bedford. :)

Well, we have a hound too....and we went with an Elvis theme...just seemed appropriate.
Her name is Memphis Grace, but we call her Gracie.

I'd love to get a bluetick

Blue tick's are awesome! Never had one, or frankly even heard of them, before our Lilly Belle found us last summer. Now everyone who meets her wants her (or one like her!).

I like Rhett and Clark a lot. We had dinner over at MIL's tonight and she liked Boudreax (sp?) a lot and also Gordon (as in Jeff Gordon). The handsome guy follows her around like a shadow! She bought him a set of pet stairs so he can climb up on her bed, and took him to have his nails trimmed.

Poor guy was very leery of DH...we assume it's from his checkered/abused past. It's going to take him some time to warm up to the extended family, but so far he's already snuggled up wth MIL on the couch, and played with his toys with her.

She has decided on a name. After showering her with a plethora of awesome southern names courtesy of you guys...(Jeffe...do you know what a plethora is?) she went outside the box and found one that apparently suits his personality. She called me this morning at a crazy early hour all excited to tell me that she is going to call him...

Harry Houdini.

Seems he managed to escape not one, but TWO collars AND the harness she had him strapped in her minivan with (by chewing through the seatbelt.). She starts obediance training with him next week. Hahahaha!!

The jury is still out though as to whether he will be known as Harry or Houdini (Hoodie).

;)Houdini has Wisconisin ties...so doesn't sound very southern to me:lmao:

OP - you still owe us some pics...

The magic of animals...It looks like she has a new lease on life.:thumbsup2
