Gave In And Bought My September Southest Flight

I think we're buying ours next week. My mom flies out every Christmas from San Diego to Houston, so I keep an eye on the fare prices. Last 5 years we've never paid over $300 including bags and this year I couldn't find a flight less than $500 with bags. :sad2:

The flights from PHL to MCO for late August and early September are double what I paid last year. I am going to have to book soon and pay more I guess. :scared:

We booked RT out of New Orleans about a month ago for $99/each way and were thrilled to get it! Our flights have consistently been $155-175 each way every time I've looked, so I jumped on those rates.

Wish I'd seen those prices out of B'ham...I'd have driven to my parents house and flown out from there :sad2:.

(BTW, MScott1851, ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!)

Just checked Southwest fares again and saw that our flight went down $7.
I cancelled and rebooked using the travel funds. Saved $21. Not much but I can used the credit for our flight back when I book that.

$177 out of Midway is crazy, have you checked AirTran ? i've booked with them last 2 times for under $100 each way and that included the bag fee

I checked AirTran and there were no nonstop flights. I need nonstop due to my flying anxiety issues. I've found no cheaper nonstop flights anywhere.
But the fare did drop $7 today so I have a $21 credit. Maybe fare will drop again by some miracle.

I considered flying from Midway to Orlando in late September, and AirTran does have non-stop flights each way. I just checked AirTran now, and some days the non-stop fares are $87 each way!

that is a pretty good rate for round trip. The past few years we have been paying over 200/person round trip from Newark NJ.

We are also going down in Sept. and the flights are too expensive, so don't feel bad about 170.

$170 is the OP's one-way fare!

We are pricing flights for our November trip from MSP. Delta has been 179.00 each way, but at least they have nonstops. Hoping for some type of sale to bring it down to 129-149 :badpc:

Remembering the good ole days when we paid 120 round trip and bags were free!

I checked flights from Orlando to Chicago Midway for every day in September. There are non-stop flights every day, and most days had non-stops at $87. There might not be 3 seats available at $87, but there is at least one $87 seat on non-stops on the following dates in September: 3-14, 16-21, 24-28.

Ok I just checked Airtran. We are traveling on a Saturday so the fares are always higher. I found one nonstop flight to Orlando at $146. On the day we are returning all the non stop flights on Airtran are over $160.00 I'm pretty sure you have to pay for extra checked in bags on Airtran so it really wouldn't be saving me anything over Southwest at this point.
I'm a little leery of Airtran ever since friends of our used them and had their flight times changed numerous times.

Yes, AirTran charges $20 per first checked bag. If the day after your planned return date is a Sunday with an $87 fare (Sept. 9 and 16) - it might be worth staying an extra night for a lower plane fare.

we usually pay no more then 110 from nashville to orlando. this year it is 169 each and there are 6 of us. we are flying in to jacksonville for 99 and driving.

SWA had our flights down to $179 each way, but I couldn't buy for 2 more weeks because of the ole finances. And now they've gone up to $193. Urge to kill rising. :furious:

The flights we booked are going up now. I've checked several times a day, every day since the schedule came out and I've never seen them for under $150. All the other airlines from Dallas to Orlando are more expensive. Some of them are only a little more expensive, but once you add baggage fees, they'd be a lot more. I'm glad we booked, but I'm irritated that they don't give us a better deal out of Dallas. This is their hub! Good grief.

Yeah it is super dumb. Houston used to be their hub and we always had really low flight prices, but now that they pulled out of here ours are the worst! My mom can fly from California to Orlando for almost $100 less than we can fly from Houston to Orlando.

I got a little more good news. Found a Southwest flight that leaves 2 hours later than our original flight but still will arrive early enough for us in Orlando at 2:35pm. Price of that flight went down to $158. Our original flight was $177 then went down to $170. Now with this flight we have saved a total of nearly $60 which I can use when I purchase our return flight.
Here's to hoping prices go down even more. pixiedust:pixiedust:

Just checked and now that flight I got this morning at the $158 fare is $170 now. How can a fare change like that in 9 hours?
