Gave Garden Grill A Second Chance-OOPS

When I read this thread out loud to my DH I couldn't help but laugh. You really had a great way of writing this!! It's a shame that The Garden Grill was changed so much, because this was my favorite restaurant on property. But, maybe it's time to find a new favorite. ;)

UPDATE!! Just read on another thread that beginning August 21 they are going back to their old menu! Only change is pork instead of chicken.

From Disney's website:

Come to the party and meet Mickey and his pals, who host a family-style signature skillet for you! Family-style favorites include grilled steak, rotisserie meats and country-style catfish. This rotating restaurant overlooks scenes from the Living with the Land attraction and even features food grown in the Land greenhouse. The children's meals feature a fun interactive dessert. It's a Garden of delights!

I just saw this and this is great news!!! I already have my PS for Biergarten, but I now know that next year we can return to The Garden Grill!! :cheer2:

Did you read the news that they are ditching the menu no one likes and going back to something more akin to what they had before. Check out my post about 4 spaces above this one.

I must have eaten at the "Alternate Reality Garden Grill" in May! Our server was excellent, kept me in iced tea and Splenda all evening. the restaurant was clean, the character interaction very good for me and a 19yo DD. They happily substituted the orzo for the potatoes and my steak and DD's snapper was delicious! Our breads and dipping sauces were good, the salad was too strong, and our thick, chocolatey fondue (I grew up in Europe...I know my fondue!) had brownie, fresh citrus cake, very nice strawberries (several), gummy worms (that icked me out), pineapple, and chocolate chip cookies. It was good enough that I asked for some recipes and the chef came to the table and sat with us for a little bit. My only complaint to him (other than the dressing for the salad) was I would have preferred bananas and marshmallows for my fondue to the brownie and worms. I had eaten there in 2003 and it immediately went on my "never again" list after *that* meal of dried meats, bland sides, and a disgusting apple-something that not a single person in my family would eat more than a bite of. I'm bummed about it changing back to the old way...it really was a wonderful meal when I visited in May. Really!

You ate at the same rtestaurant I did! :earsgirl: Although I thought I loved the old GG (mainly for the character interaction) I REALLY loved the "new" one. I am very disappointed because this also means I and my friends will not be dining there too often, since it is a "heavy" (as in pig-out type) menu and not a choice of 5 separate entrees. Unfortunately for me I am out of state again until September 24, so I can't even go back and experience it one more time before the change. MAJOR bummer. :(

I think much of the disappointment in the new menu is that Garden Grill was probably what most considered the only "non-weird" restaurant of all at Epcot. The kids loved it, the parents liked it because the food was recognizable. That means a whole lot at Disney. It doesn't hurt that it reverts back to the way it was, there are plenty of other restaurants that would do well with that menu... just not a staple of normalcy like Garden Grill.
