Does anyone know where you can try gator? Nothing expensive. Something like fried gator tail.

Most places that serve seafood in the state have them. Around WDW the only place I've found them yet is at the Wildside BBQ... there is one on 192 and one in downtown Orlando.

They taste like fried chicken bites and are usually an appetizer. If they are fresh, they will be more chicken-y and tender, but they get chewy and a little fishy when less fresh.

Shark bites are better.

the gatorland smokehouse sells ribs and nuggets
but you have to go to gatorland to eat there. (gatorland is worth a trip if you havent been before )

Oh Ya, here it is..Gary's Oyster Bar in Lake Alfred..About 25 minute drive from Disney...absolute local favorite for all kinds of great fresh fish...

Now, this has the location on the WRONG side of Hwy 92. It is on the North side of 192 just east of Lake Alfred. If you want a fun little road trip and fresh gator give this try. From Disney area take I-4 West to Tampa to 27 south. Go south about 10 miles to Haines City. Just past all the Haines City Restaurants on 27 look for Hwy 92 west. Go about 5 miles or so and look for Gary's on your right. It's a small dumpy looking place but the parking lot will be full of 50 to 70 y/o locals.

I dare ya!!!

what do you mean by wrong side? as in wrong side of the track?

looking at the map, this appears to be in the middle of a trailer park, is that right?

Hello, sorry I was not more clear. Google has the location in the wrong place. It is not on the south side of 192 but on the north or right side as you come into Lake Alfred on 92 west.
The small restaurant sits next to the highway. There really is a mobile home park right behind it, but it is not in the park. And there is a mobile home park across the street, and just down the road, and, well, you get my drift...lots of mobile home parks!!

Again, it is just a great little place to eat. The portions are not huge, but the quality is excellent, and the fresh shucked oysters are the best around.

I hope you give it a try. This is also a nice 25 minute drive that takes you into a little of "old Florida." Commercial Florida disappears after Haines City and it is kind of a fun drive.

Enjoy...Ted

Gator's Dockside has gator, too--there's one in Dr. Phillips, not far from Universal, another on 27 at 192.
