DH and I are planning a 3 day stay in the Smokies next weekend for our anniversary and I'm scrambling trying to find a place to stay (BTW Last min. + Smokies + Oct. = not much to choose from.) We have usually rented a cabin in the past but too late for that. We prefer a place that we can get away from the crowds and has a great view. I am considering the The Lodge at Buckberry Creek as it sounds wonderful and has gotten some great reviews. However, since it's pricey, I would love to hear from anyone who has stayed there or hear any other recommendations. Thanks in advance for your help.

I use Diamon Mountain Rentals when we rent a cabin and have had no problems and with gorgeous cabins. The prices are fairly reasonable also.

Thanks for the info! I will check out both sites!

October is the second busiest time in Gatlinburg...big craft show. DH and I were there Columbus Day weekend 2002 and it was great...just traffic gets backed up on the main drag sometimes. We've stayed at 2 places there...the Chalets of Gatlinburg, which was a cabin with a full kitchen, living room, bathroom, and a pool table in the "dining room". There was loft that had a king bed and a heart shaped jacuzzi tub...very nice for getting away from everything. The other place was the Greystone Lodge cottages when we took DS with us. We really like this place...only about 7 blocks up the hill from the Hard Rock Cafe, but still secluded. It had a full living room, kitchen half bath downstairs. Upstairs were the 2 bedrooms, one with a king bed, mater bath complete with a jacuzzi tub, and second bedroom with a queen bed and a bathroom.

Food places that are good....
In Gatlinburg, the Pancake something or other...it has some of the best breakfast food, the pancakes are the European fashion, similar to crepes, but a bit thicker. I highly recommend the one with apples and black walnuts...yummy!
In Sieverville, which is so close eat at the Apple Barn Farmhouse...some of the best home cookin' you'll find. The apple fritters are so good with their homemade apple butter! You will not go hungry eating here...and all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are so good.

Have a great time!

I couldn't agree more Momsgoofy! The Apple Barn is one of the reasons we keep going back to the area! I love that place and we eat there at least once each trip! We stayed at Greystone several years ago and did enjoy it but I think they're booked for the dates we want.

Glad to hear you liked Deer Ridge, Shutterbug. I'm going to their site now to see what they have available.

Thanks for all the help!

Saw the mention of Apple Barn and wanted to let you know that they have a restaraunt in Gatlinburg now, it is on the end where you go into the national park, it is Applewood - it's the same company.

Also I think the pancake place is Pancake Pantry if it is right on the parkway.

Another good place to check out is The Donut Friar located back in the Village area (my favorite place) they have wonderful cinnamon bread and donuts made fresh every day.

live4christp1...you are correct with that name...can't ever seem to remember the last part...thanks! Also The Donut Friar is another good spot and actually the folks who own it own the Chalets of Galtinburg that I mentioned, or at least that is what I remember their DIL telling us when we checked in the the chalets...matter of fact the cabin we stayed in was the one she and her hubby spent their honeymoon and is the one they feature on the brochure...they each have a special name.

Thanks again for adding the correct name.

Yipee!! I'm sure it stays just as crowded as the original, but I'm happy to hear they've expanded. Love their breakfast and the apple juleps!

After several days of searching for a cabin only to find that 98% if them are already booked, DH made reservations at Buckberry Creek Lodge. Looks really nice and I can't wait. Thanks to everyone for the help!

I've heard a lot of good things about Buckberry Creek Lodge. The last trip DH and I made, we stayed at Zoders. It is older but very clean, good service. One of our favorite restaurants is the Old Mill in Pigeon Forge. Always look forward to their corn fritters w/maple butter!
