Gate checking stroller on Southwest questions

I've looked around but just want to make sure... I haven't flown in awhile let alone with a child. I can gate check a stroller on southwest correct? Without a lap child and it will be free of charge and not count as one of my free checked luggage? My daughter will be 6 but I know she won't last all day in Disney parks without one. I was going to rent from Magic Strollers but if I could find one for less and gate check it, it seems like a more obvious thing to do. Any advice welcomed! Thanks!

I would rent one and not hassle with having to gate check a stroller.

Your DD might want to use the stroller in the airport as well. Some of those airport concourses are extra long, and for whatever reason, our flights are almost always at the last possible gate in the whole terminal. Having a stroller makes it easier for little legs to keep up and/or not run off.

If you are using ME you might want to check the stroller in the box on the way there. Then you don't need to worry about it until you get to your room. If you are checking baggage, checking the stroller might be easier than gate checking it.

I've found that for some reason airports gave my kids extra energy that walking helped use up before any long flights.
